It is too bad that the owners decided it was time to close this restaurant. Apparently, it was not because the food was no longer tasty and/or interesting, or customers were staying away. So I would guess that going to the remaining locations (in LA or if traveling internationally at LAX) would be worth your while.

First, the food is fresh and prepared with interesting methods. You are given chips and three types of salsas prior to, and throughout, the meal. The main courses themselves are delicious, but certainly priced higher than the worth of their contents and labor should amount to. Second, the atmosphere is dark, almost too dark. It was rather annoying having a... More

A great restaurant for Tex Mex cuisine of higher quality and more interest than typical. Good drinks, interesting menu, pleasant surroundings in iconically decorated room.

Lunch today at the Border Grill was excellent. Our service was prompt and the foot tasted great. Public parking available across the street.

We visited Border Grill last night for the first time and we will be sure to go back. Staff attentive without being intrusive- commenting on menu items and helping me navigate food allergies. Portions are large and price is reasonable. Listed as a favorite in the LA Weekly for the area and I can see why.

My wife and I stopped in with the idea of having a late night snack and a couple drinks. They didn't have nachos so we had guacamole and we each had a margarita. The drinks were good, as was the guacamole, but it was nothing extraordinary. With tip it came to $40. That seems a bit steep for two drinks... More

We popped in for lunch and the place was mostly empty. Only two other tables. Average fare and service. We regretted that we did not visit the other taco place in town as that seemed a bit more exciting and had a much better location.

We'd just gotten in from the East coast and were hungry for authentic Mexican cuisine, and Border Grill did not disappoint. The best dishes were the Pork tacos al pastor and the grilled fish tacos. There were three tacos, two types of rice, and black beans. We shared a guacamole for the table, which went well with the fresh, hot... More

Excellent, fresh food. Wonderful Margaritas. Service was superb. Our British friends were very impressed with how attentive, yet unobtrusive, the staff was to us throughout the meal.

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
