Looking for fresh Sushi in Santa Monica?

Loved this restaurant. Had checked on Trip Advisor and it had been mentioned then asked at the Conciege at the hotel who said she'd never been there but several of their hotel guests had been. We booked a couple of hours ahead and arrived to a bustling restaurant. Staff were excellent, offering... read more

We came here because I have not had good sushi in a long time. We had the Matsu sushi plate and I had one of the best sushi in my memory. We also had the Hakata Ramen on the recommendation of a good friend who had tried it many times before. She was right! Restaurant was attractive and staff were... More

It was a quiet rainy night, but the restaurant was 2/3 with what looked to be locals. We ordered a selection of sashimi & special rolls, as well as the king crab fried rice which was excellent. For vegetarians there was the premium tofu 3 ways, miso eggplant dengaku (5*), organic kale salad (4.5*), and a special vegetarian roll (3.5*).... More

The restaurant is cool and comfortable. The staff is great. The sushi was good, miso soup was awful, really fishy. Edamame with garlic was Sergio, way to much garlic, not subtle - taste or smell! Sugarfish is the better choice in the area. However Sugarfish always has a wait.

Sushi revisited by Sushi Roku. You can go traditional if you want or be a bit adventurous here with some original shish recipes. Try the crunchy spicy tuna rolls for example. For sure nothing unique, but a place with a great service, a smiling, joking, teasing waitress and a warm atmosphere. Rather pack even on week days, I would recommend... More

The food is...okay. The service is...okay. Maybe with a location that virtually guarantees patrons from one the many hotels along Ocean Avenue, Sushi Roku feels like they just don't have to try that hard. But you'd think they could fake it a little better than they do.

I enjoyed my dining experience here, but nothing really impressed me enough to give it above a 3-star rating. The highlight of the night was the edamame tossed in truffle oil/butter. The service was solid and the food was about average. The kare age was a bit greasy and the drinks were also just average. Sadly, I have been to... More

Some of my friends recommended this place, so I taught let me check it out. However a few days before I went to Nobu and had the Albacore Sashimi, here I saw it on the menu as well. And at Nobu it was amazing so I kind of had the same expectations here. However the pieces of fish were a... More

This is clearly a popular place with a loyal clientele, and well positioned on Ocean Avenue. However, I felt it was all a bit style over substance. For my first course I ordered the blue crab tartare which, to be fair, was very good. It was delightfully meaty and creamy. Then I decided to try the selection of 8 Roku... More

Food was average to below average. Yellowtail sashimi was actually fishy tasting. Horrible service and very high prices. There are many other, superior sushi bars in the area so...never again, Roku.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
