My husband and I had the 10-course dinner, which they call the 10, and we absolutely loved it! Everything was perfectly seasoned and memorable but the highlights were the egg caviar, foie gras torchon, king salmon, prime rib eye and melon ice dessert. I have to say more about the black truffle risotto. They shaved the truffle right in front... More

Purple sets the tone at Melisse and the staff is welcoming and very attentive. The wine list is both broad and deep, especially with regard to the French selections. The older Raveneau Chablis we ordered was well stored, reflected its pedigree well, and was perfect with the evening’s tasting menu. The egg with caviar first course was delicious and a... More

We booked the place for a special occasion and weren't dissapointed. Food was amazing but just a little too sweet for me. I really loved the french butter and the french bread selection. The service was almost flawless and it was a dining experience we will fondly remember.

Superior French dining with amazing preparation and presentation. Highlights were the spot prawns, lobster bolognese, and the duck which was a unique & perfect preparation. Corkage is a bit steep at $50, but they waived it when we purchased a split of champagne.

Fourth time we've eaten at this classic, superb place. It was our tenth anniversary dinner. Same quality as Daniel and The French Laundry. Perfect in all respects. Yes, very pricey, but you know that going in because that is what it takes to deliver on this level. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and hovers without being intrusive. The food and... More

I've eaten at phenomenal restaurants, and Melisse might be the best. The 10 course prix fixe with wine pairings was an absolute joy and adventure. Each course was appropriately served ultra-fine food. Matthew the sommelier is the best I have ever encountered, his knowledge and pairing with the food were impeccable. I highly recommend Melisse for a special occasion when... More

The dining room is neither ostentatious nor impressive - it's a nice room with well separated tables. The surroundings don't get in the way of what was one of our top 10 or so meals ever. The food and service were beyond reproach. Perfect!!! The dishes were not too complex or contrived. They were inventive but not too abstract or... More

This is a restaurant with creativity in cuisine. While some of the dishes did not impress me there was enough innovation to capture my interest. My questions to the initial waiter had my service transferred to the mai.tre d' who was most informative and knowledgeable. Service from this person was quite sophisticated if overly intrusive to our dining experience. The... More

This place is truly amazing - probably one of my favorite LA restaurant. The food is amazing. We opted for the 10 course and so glad we did it! It was a four hour course meal. We brought our own wine and got a bottle at the restaurant which they waived the 50 corkage fee. This place is pricy $600... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
