Valentinos has always been our favorite italian restaurant. When we saw it was participating in L.A. Dine we used the opportunity to invite friends who had never been there. While the quality and taste of the food continues to be very special, the service and servings of food were both frugal. We brought two bottles of wine and expected to... More

Dear Ann i know that you are upset about our corkage policy, but the reality is that with one of the largest wine list in the country, it is very hard to accept people that by bringing wine, make our margin of profit non existing... , That has become such of problem for restaurants and we try to be fair... Although high touted, I found Valentino's to be quite average and overrated. The service was okay but the food was unimaginative and disappointing in my humble opinion.

If you are looking for one of the best restaurants in the world, look no further. Valentino is by far, way ahead of the rest. This isn't your typical Italian eatery. This is old world classic style gourmet, and there are no twists. Of course, you can order the pasta, and it will be great. If fact it's the best... More

We came here on Saturday night, May 14th and had a Living Social/Groupon 5 course meal voucher. This is a very nice, classy, upscale restaurant. Great ambiance. At first they seated us at a table but we asked if we could get a booth, and they accommodated us. Food was very good, service was great. I highly recommend this to... More

We have been going to Valentino for the last 30 years, and it never once disappointed us. Pasta is really good here, and so is the sea food. Their lobster is really worth trying. Sauces are on the light side. Excellent and voluminous wine list. Being fond of Barolos, most of the time I defer to the sommelier who unfailingly... More

I'm sure this place was nice ... back in the 70s. I don't think they've bothered to update since then. Service was nice, but everything else was lacking. The salad appetizer was good. The bread that accompanied dinner was not becoming of an Italian restaurant. And by all means, avoid the gnocchi and especially the very heavily breaded flattened veal!

Okay, this is a very good Italian restaurant. But to claim that it is the best Italian restaurant in America smacks of LA hyperbole and self-promotion. Valentino is old-school Italian with Tuscan colored walls and stars painted onto a dark ceiling. Comfortable and classy: a good choice for a romantic dinner with your lover. That being said, the food ranges... More

Valentino is an exceptional Italian cuisine. The food is fresh and impeccable; it truly brings the spirit of Italian dining to Santa Monica. I would recommend one to try the chef's tasting menu which has several different choices and numerous a la carte selections showcasing the pleasures of Italian cooking. Valentino also has a great wine selection which will clearly... More

I agree with Pulitzer-Prize winning food critic Jonathan Gold that this is one of the 100 best restaurants in Los Angeles. Owner Piero Salveggio and the rest of the staff treat you like you are a much-welcomed guest in their home from the moment you enter the restaurant. The food is flavorful and authentic - I am a huge fan... More

Valentino remains the paradigm of a kind of Old School Italian restaurant from days gone by. The Italian waiters with their lived-in attitude, the classic dishes, the classy maitre'd still played to perfection by the venerable Piero Selvaggio. The food here is excellent, with really fine ingredients prepared in a classic style. I started with the grilled octopus - tender... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
