Its nothing fancy but the food is great and everyone is so friendly. My husband and I shared a turkey with avocado and cheddar (hold the bacon) with fries on thick egg bread and ordered a side salad. It was plenty for both of us....Bill was around $17. This is our go to place when traveling up and down the 101. BTW, the kitchen is fast!More

Lots of food choices, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Usually always good service. very busy for saturda/sunday breakfast/brunch times. Food is ok. Im pretty picky so cant really comment, but what i choose, which is basic, sandwich and fries for lunch and eggs, bacon, pancakes, toast for...breakfast is good. Not crazy about the burgers or tri tip but overall okMore

We found this place by accident on our way from LA to Monterey and were so glad we did! The service was great, the food delicious and clearly, this is s local joint. The perfect place for comfort food. I had a yummy breakfast, which...is served all day and hubby had a big and delicious grilled chicken breast sandwich with cole slaw. We will be back!More

Pleasant service, good food, very casual; known for comfort food and local specialty; Santa Maria style tri tip steak with traditional pinquito beans, salsa. This time the tri tip was. Tough, but flavorful.not the best barbecue flavor; unsure if it was oak wood. I took...out of state family hoping they’d enjoy the local Flavor and atmosphere. They did; I just wished the meat wasn’t tough and service quicker.More

The atmosphere for this diner was just ok. It is a working person's diner and is filled with decades of memorabilia, which is cheap and boring. The building is like a well-worn shoe, not so attractive yet comfortable. I did mention "decades". The wait staff...was very friendly and much attention was paid to service. Considering it was late Sunday morning they responded quickly, and efficiently. I did have to ask for water which is no big deal at all. The food and drink, however, is another story. OK, let's start with the water. You know things might not go well when we start with the water. Water was fine, but served in a plastic tumbler with a chip on the edge of the tumbler IS just bad. Fortunately, I saw it and did not cut my lip which I could have. Yes, I ran my finger over it and it was indeed sharp as heck. The waitress took it away and I watched as she simply tossed it in a bussers tray o be used again by some poor unsuspecting customer that will get cut and get blamed for being a careless customer. The coffee was Farmers Brothers which seemed to be very, um, uh, light. No flavor, weak tea. It sucked. That is enough on that item. I was wavering between the steak and eggs breakfast and chicken fried steak, usually a decent choice in a diner. I ordered the chicken fried steak (CFS) and eggs, it describes 3 eggs over medium eggs with home fries. The 3 eggs are what it says on the menu. My plate arrives and the portions are very generous. It looks good. I cut into the chicken fried steak. It is incredibly stringy with fat and gristle. Ok, ok. I know that CFS is made from a not so good cut, typically bottom round which is then run through a tenderizer. The lowest grade of beef usually used in a decent diner is select. I swear this was USDA commercial, which is "grinding material to produce ground beef or processed/cooked meat products.” You know like for bologna, beef sausage, jerky, hot dogs, etc." The CFS was bland, poor tasting, had no firmness of bite between the gristle. If I did not know from my food background that "commercial and standard" are the last grades that are make it to stores I might have guessed it was canner grade, for dog food. BTW, the incarcerated get standard and commercial and it sucks. It is difficult to screw up eggs unless they are just not cooked correctly. They weren't. The came runny like so much snot on the plate that I asked our wonderful waitress to replace the three eggs. The TWO eggs came back hot and perfectly over medium. See above regarding the number of eggs. I just shut my mouth so as not to tempt fate again. I like A-1 sauce on my potatoes, always have. So, of course, I requested that it she brought it with my meal. This was NOT A-1 !! Somebody watered it down. I have worked as a consultant in the food industry for many, many years. I retired as a food service consultant, and was successful. I have eaten a boatload of food, in professional settings. Never have I seen A-1 sauce watered down. IT WAS HORRID! I knew then that this restaurant is cutting every corner they can to make a profit. They have been successful since 1959 and most likely will continue to be. I also know that my one time experience can not be typical based on the reviews I have read and might give them another shot in the future when I return to visit family nearby. BUT, on this day, this Sunday 10-27-2019 they completely failed me. My wife did say her omelet was ok. I hope for them that maybe they are not cutting corners, because in this business you can not save your way to profits.More

This is our favorite local restaurant, the waitstaff is tremendous, the food is delicious and we eat their at least a couple times a month. Our favorite is the salmon dinner, but the trt-tip and chicken are also a treat. My only request is peas....(no one serves peas around here), and I love peas with my salmon!More

Pappy's has a truck stop - Diner vibe. It is perfect for travelers & families as well as it is located directly next to a Chevron station (with equiptment & service bays for big rigs too!) Next to the gas station is the freeway on...ramp! What could be more convenient!!! Pappy's is also frequented by many locals, as the food is GREAT & fairly priced. The atmosphere is SUPER CASUAL. It is not unusial to see a farmer in dusty overalls, with a businesswoman in a skirt & herls at the next table. Plenty of singles. families & groups as well! There are a few large tables to accomodate the latter. The food is always fresh and delicious. Nothing 'fancy'. Just Good & SATISFYING food!!! The sandwiches are LOADED with meat, portions are always generous, regardless of what you order. The staff is attentive and knowlegible, and the coffee pot always on! Pappy's has been around for well over 30 years (that I know of!) You don't have that kind of longevity without a good local following!!!More

Hands down this is still my favorite place for a CA omelette and extra crispy hash browns! Locals abound here too! Very homey, very Santa Maria, don't forget to try the tri-tip too.

stopped by for lunch... looks like a roadside diner but the food is great ... lots of it. Took my tri tip sandwich for lunch the next day. Good price and plenty of food for the price.
