I have been eating at Tacos Moreno since 1983 (and still have a shirt from 1985 that drew a surprised reaction from the owner's daughter, the champion boxer, when I wore it on a visit there a couple of years ago).
When I started going...to Tacos Moreno, the US Postman would be inside eating, before they officially opened at 11. Told me something when someone who goes into every place in the neighborhood chose to regularly dine there.)
My item of choice is the bean and cheese taco. Simple, yes. Supremely delicious, nonetheless. Beans are cooked to perfection. Two corn tortillas, one tucked inside the other, with some crispness to it. Cabbage and cheese. Their salsa is too good for words. Worth squeezing some from the bottle left on the table onto each bite.
Tortilla chips are warm and fresh (though an extra cost).
My friend loves the al Pastor. My kids love different burritos, but I stick with the bean and cheese taco. It's been working for close to 35 years, so why change. My mouth is watering, right now, just thinking about it and contemplating when I can next visit.
I no longer live in town, but each time I visit, stopping in at Tacos Moreno is a top priority.More
