I used to come in for burritos and tacos for lunch when I worked for Roy Baldwin Motors just down Water Street in the 1980’s. I moved to Florida in 2006 and there hasn’t been a trip out to Santa Cruz that I didn’t manage...a meal at Tacos Moreno’s. Without question, the best taqueria between Santa Cruz and Florida.More

The restaurant is small and feels like a mom and pop place. The service was quick and friendly. We tried two different kinds of super burritos and two different types of tacos. The ingredients were a mixed bag. Some were wholesome and good. The pork...was so salty it was hard to eat. They do not use fresh avocado- something out of a squirt canister. The flavors were muted overall. There were no sparks of cilantro herbs, or smoked peppers. The hot sauce on the side had no bite or refinement. The tacos at $5 each were expensive and did not merit the price in size or flavors. We did not finish are food and did not take it home. It is ok at best. Not recommended!More

One of the best burritos I have ever had. Small little joint with limited seating. Get the burrito with your favorite meat and you won't be disappointed. Cash only place, family owned. Try the homemade salsa that's on each table. The Al Pastor meat is...my favorite filling. $8 for a burritoMore

The meat they use is always great. The tacos are delicious! I tried lengua (tongue) for the first time here and loved it. It is a great little spot for a meal or afternoon taco snack.

This is a Santa Cruz favorite. Lots of locals converge on this taco place at lunch time. The line goes out the door and down the street for a good reason the food is excellent and reasonably.

We just tried 4 different type of tacos and they all tasted the same. They load the tacos with so many beans that they flatter the flavor to the point that you eagerly reach for the salsa bottle to get more out of them. Easy...parking, clean and fast. More expensive than others near by. Very good cheese quesadilla but the tacos ...after 4 hours my stomach is still fighting them. Bottom line: get a quesadilla.More

The parking was easy. Seating and the guy behind the counter was nice but I wasn't expecting beans, I wasn't expecting cabbage and I wasn't expecting cheese in my taco, but I ate it. Ordered al pastor, lengua and Chile verde. The pinto beans were...nicely done but really just a filler. The flavor was bland without the table salsa. If you take away the fillers there was half as much meat as most other tacos this size. There were definitely locals, but the gardeners, carpenters (maybe you get what I mean, maybe you don't) are eating somewhere else. I just knew there were gonna be issues with gas due to the beans and cheese but I ate it anyway. Thank goodness I was playing 18 at De la viega dgc out in the open. The chips and the tortilla were nicely done but the guts of these tacos are a californication of what I was seeking.More

I have been eating at Tacos Moreno since 1983 (and still have a shirt from 1985 that drew a surprised reaction from the owner's daughter, the champion boxer, when I wore it on a visit there a couple of years ago). When I started going...to Tacos Moreno, the US Postman would be inside eating, before they officially opened at 11. Told me something when someone who goes into every place in the neighborhood chose to regularly dine there.) My item of choice is the bean and cheese taco. Simple, yes. Supremely delicious, nonetheless. Beans are cooked to perfection. Two corn tortillas, one tucked inside the other, with some crispness to it. Cabbage and cheese. Their salsa is too good for words. Worth squeezing some from the bottle left on the table onto each bite. Tortilla chips are warm and fresh (though an extra cost). My friend loves the al Pastor. My kids love different burritos, but I stick with the bean and cheese taco. It's been working for close to 35 years, so why change. My mouth is watering, right now, just thinking about it and contemplating when I can next visit. I no longer live in town, but each time I visit, stopping in at Tacos Moreno is a top priority.More

I have been eating at Tacos Moreno for over 20 years. It is a family run business and the food is homemade and always fresh. I actually have withdrawal symptoms every December when the family goes to Mexico for the holidays and closes shop for...10 days. Their quesadillas consist of fresh hot corn tortilla dipped briefly in hot oil then filled with cheese, whole beans, cabbage tomatoes, cilantro and fresh salsa. Something about the combo of hot tortilla and fresh vegetables is divine. I also love the chicken burrito, or carne asada or pork burrito. No rice and beans here-- just perfectly balanced simple great foodMore

While in Santa Cruz on a recent Saturday afternoon my wife and I decided to try Tacos Moreno for lunch. The place was very sad and the service lacking. Because this sometimes is the case in authentic Mexican eateries, we overlooked it because the quality...and taste of the food is what really matters. I ordered my favorite: carnitas tacos. They were very dry. When I asked for some lime, I was served two very small dry pieces. My wife ordered the meat quesadilla and found it below average. I don't know where the other reviewers ate but it could not have been this place. We would not return.More
