The food was good and the staff was accommodating. They have a large menu and a decent lunch menu with plenty of sandwiches, pastas, etc for a good price. The portions are generous, and the "half" portions at lunch was still plenty of food for...us.More

We have been visiting Santa Barbara for decades and we always have enjoyed the food and service at Chase. On a Saturday night, we made reservations and had a short wait before being seated. Ordered a cocktail and it took 20 minutes to arrive. It...took 20 more minutes to flag down someone to take our order. After delivering our appetizer without any utensils, I asked the waitress for a fork. She replied, I am not your waitress and left. My wife and I both thought, maybe they are short staffed, however we were looking forward to a great meal. That didn't happen. Our meal was soggy and tasteless. Mushrooms were canned and pasta tasted liked a can of tomato paste. Portions were small. Presentation was not there. We felt like we were eating in an Elementary Cafeteria. So sad this place has gone downhill. I wouldn't be surprised if this place fails, as we were not the only patrons comparing our service and meals to the old Chase staple we had gone to for years.More

At the suggestion of friends who’d been to Chase in the past we went there for lunch today. And, boy, was that a mistake. The first problem was the blaring music. A polite request by us to tuen it down a bit first got the...response that it was”very low.” Next, the employee said he had no control of it, and invoked “the manager” who, unfortunately, was absent. Hmm. Someone eventually did turn the noise down. Two dishes came out and probably, after multiple assurances “it’ll be right up” and at least 10 more minutes, the other two of our party were served. The food? My husband described his “cream of potato soup” as flour, water and a chunk of potato. My “warm Spinach salad with crispy chicken” was dreadfully unique: baby spinach, thin slices of chicken and some fried onion slices. The dressing? An incredible bowl of goo or glop. When it arrived I first thought it might be soup but, no, just a gelatinous mixture that I was supposed to apply to the spinach and miraculously have a “warm spinach salad.” From other reviews I gather that Chase was once good and now has a new owner who seems to be cutting many/all corners. Don’t roll the dice. Don’t go to Chase.More

We had a confirmed reservation at 5:15 for inside seating on Sunday Dec 19th. We arrived on time and checked in with the hostess. She confirmed that we did have a reservation but they did not have any seating inside and tried to sit us...outside. We made the reservation specifically to sit inside for the Christmas decorations and atmosphere. She rudely and with zero empathy said that they would not be able to accommodate our confirmed reservation- and she had the gall to say that they had called us earlier to say that they would not be able to accommodate our reservation - which was a complete lie!! I could not believe it. I wish she would have been honest with us and said "I am sorry - we overbooked our inside tables today" instead of the lie that she offered. The Chase Restaurant is overbooking the inside restaurant and trying to get people to sit outside. This is a dishonest practice. I will not return to this restaurant due to the way the hostess treated us. Merry Christmas!More

Since the new owners took over, this place has become horrible. They seem to think they can ride off the past reputation and being on State Street. All they had to do was keep doing what they’d been doing… but they cut every corner they...can. Sad to see, because it was good for so long. Read any recent review, and you’ll see. Cheap, old food. Terrible service; the wait staff is always new because it’s so poorly mismanaged, so nobody ever knows what’s going on. And if you have pretty girls in your group, be careful - the owner likes to come around and try to shmooze. Gross on every level. AVOID.More

My boyfriend and I ate here while exploring State Street, and sat outside. I was pleased that there was a lunch special menu with more affordable options. I had the arugula salad with salmon, which was exactly as advertised, but a bit disappointing - it...was mostly arugula. My boyfriend loved the wedge salad, and had a grilled chicken dish that was ok. Service was slow - so slow in fact that I had to leave to re-park the car on a 2-hour spot. There are so many options for food on State Street, so I would recommend giving this one a pass.More

My husband and I ordered the salmon in orange reduction sauce with alfredo. We both decided it was one of the best meals we've ever had. The meal came out pipping hot by Giovanni, and stayed warm until we could no longer eat any more....I plan on coming back every week for this lunch special.More

I don't really nice leaving bad reviews - I'm hoping this is a case of an off night for a tourist. Place looks good with a pretty comprehensive menu. Waiter came back 5 minutes later to let my son know that they didn't have his...entree in the kitchen. I later heard this told to another party for their entree - good wait staff would know when their kitchen is out of stuff before letting customers order it. Although maybe in this case, they were out of 1/2 of their menu? The wait staff delivered apps to the wrong table for 4 different tables for each of our all 4 tables' orders - after a while it was comical how badly they were mucking up getting orders to the correct table. Fortunately everyone was honest in saying that the order was sent to the wrong table. My entree came back wrong - piccata instead of provencal - and waiter then said the kitchen didn't have provencal anyways. Not very amused by that comment. Our mussel app was very good at least, but not a very good first impression for me.More

Chase was once a very nice restaurant reminiscent of a traditional NYC Italian restaurant. Well on a recent visit, my experience was pretty average with slow indifferent service and the food is no longer outstanding. A sad slide into mediocrity. What a shame.

We really wanted a traditional SB place on State to enjoy people watching and they nailed that part. It all went a bit sideways from there on. Our server you could tell was very frazzled, too long of hours, not sure, but he/she tried. The...food was mediocre at best and when it came to dessert, well, it was suggested by our server that we try it elsewhere. We didn't have a bad time and none of it got to us, but we won't be back as it was simply too much going sideways to give them another shot.More

We were in Santa Barbara for the weekend and looking for somewhere to eat out as a family. Grateful Chase restaurant was an option by having outside dining since options were limited on State Street. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table...later in the evening on a weekend night. And our meal was well worth the wait. Fresh, tasty Italian food. Between the food, live music and service it was a great family meal out and about on State Street.More

Chase hits you with classic Italian restaurant charm the moment you enter the restaurant. The place is my kind of restaurant...old school. And the addition of an ample serving of holiday decoration turned the home-style ambiance up another notch. This is a great place for...a business meeting, family meal or nicer date. The service was first rate. Our server was dressed reminiscent of Harry Potter’s Belatrix LeStrange, but she rocked the look and we went with it. The meal was unrushed and they cleared dirty plates very quickly. I really like that. The meals, standards like chicken parm and marsala, were all well received by our party. No one left hungry. And did I mention that my gin and tonic was a generous pour. One and done. All in, we had an enjoyable family evening at Chase at a reasonable price and we will return.More

Went to this restaurant for the first time for an adult date night. We really tried to have a good attitude about it but it was horrible. We waited 40 minutes past our reservation to be seated. While we were waiting we could see how...dirty and unkempt everything was. The hostess sneezed on the silverware while making roll ups. After we finally took our seats, we were served bland white bread before anyone asked us for a drink order at least 10 minutes later (we would have already consumed 2 or more drinks if anyone had asked us while we were waiting.) We asked for olive oil for the bread but they didn’t give us bread plates so no way to eat it. The Malbec was horrible tasted like it had been open for days. Salad was lettuce and croutons. Vegan special smelled and tasted like mildew. Pasta was way over cooked and mushy. Pork chop was small and average taste ($27!). Server couldn’t figure out how to use our VISA gift card (it worked easily the next day). Didn’t even offer us dessert. To top it off the prices were very high. We could have had a much better meal nearby for less. This restaurant needs a total overhaul to even be worthy of a visit, let alone for the high prices they charge. The only favorable comment was that although the service was bad everyone was pleasant. They weren’t mean/didn’t have attitude but they basically seemed overwhelmed and unsupported. In theory, we’d love to go to a nice Italian restaurant for good meats and pastas and vegan entrees but you couldn’t pay me to go back to The Chase again. What a bummer. Next time we will go back to Ca’ Dario Pizza or one of the other pleasant and delicious restaurants in the area. I kind of hope The Chase closes so something better can move in. The owners and management obviously don’t care about this place. It is sad.More

We went to the restaurant to have their tomahawk rib eye. It took nearly 20 minutes till the waiter arrived we ordered and after 60 min the waiter to tell us that the tomahawk was not available....but they would other steaks....and we would get a...discount due to the fact that we did not get what we ordered. It took another 45 min to get our food and on the check we never found a discount....food was ok but not that what we wanted to enjoy that evening. It is unacceptable that a waiter needs 60 minutes to tell us that the meat was not available - we would have left if we would have known earlier that we are not going to get what we ordered.More
