Via Maestra is in a shopping center on State and Las Positas close to the excellent bookstore Chaucer's.. I imagine the restaurant doesn't have a higher rating simply because it's not downtown near the tourists. The outside tables look out on a parking lot but inside is very pleasant. Service is excellent and whenever we have visited it's been quiet.... More

I used Via Maestra 42 for catering my husbands 60th birthday party dinner! Renato was wonderful to work with - menu planning from the beginning and always available to answer questions along the way! The party was last night and every guest commented on the beautiful food presentation and AMAZING taste! The food was a total hit! True authentic Italian... More

Santa Barbara locals who understand Italian cuisine frequent Via Maestra. It is embarrassingly small scale. That can be a problem, especially at dinner when it is tough to get a table (and the tables are all small--this is not a place for big parties). But the food is excellent. If you are not too gluttonous, I recommend splitting a salad... More

ViaMaestra is our favorite spot for authentic Italian food! Our favorites are the bow tie pasta or the pumpkin ravioli with sage sauce! Yummy! Great wine, amazing desserts. If you haven't been here yet, be aware that this cute place will become your new favorite. The restaurant is small but it's very unique and you won't find a reason to... More

The food is good enough to rub in my hair. It never disappoints. Eat inside or outside or pick up cheese or pastry or gelato from the cases and take it to go. The ricotta is nothing like supermarket ricotta. It's the service that is strange. Most of the time I feel as though I am either in the way... More

We popped in for lunch a bit early but it had a steady stream of patrons. I would say if the tight seating is a turn off, or the normal size portions, then by all means choose someplace else. For us it was just perfect an every way. The decor is just perfect & the food was delicious, staff was... More

We've eaten here monthly for years. The food is great, the prices better than the bigger/louder Italian restaurants in town. Service is consistently warm, friendly, good. Nice small place to chat over dinner. They don't take reservations -- but if you call saying you'll be there in 5-10 minutes they'll often hold a table for you.

Nice, friendly restaurant. Order at the counter. Service at the table. Very friendly service. All sorts of Italian dishes and wonderful Italian ice cream and delicious deserts.
