My husband and I had dinner at Opal while visiting Santa Barbara on a trip exploring the West Coast and it ended up being one of our favorite meals of our trip! The food was excellent. I had a soup that was on their special...menu that was delicious. Our entrees were delicious as well. My filet mignon was perfectly cooked and my husband raved about his entree too. We had a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. Our drinks were delicious and had just the right amount of alcohol. The atmosphere was lovely and romantic. The service was excellent - so friendly and attentive. The price was very reasonable for the type of restaurant. We will definitely return next time we're in Santa Barbara!More

Had a lot of hope for this restaurant, the reviews were good and the menu looked promising. Unfortunately, this experience was the opposite of a promising and high rated restaurant. Wait staff was incredibly slow and paid little attention to our group, it took 20...minutes just for a waiter to come over and to get some water. I feel that since they put on an automatic 20% gratuity charge for groups of 6 that they feel little need to be attentive. But to top it off, the food was even worse than the service. The ahi tuna had no taste, their paella is nothing like a real paella and I’m surprised they even label it paella with how basic and poor tasting it was. The shrimp pizza was average at best, and for the price I would have expected more than 3 small pieces of shrimp. The only thing I enjoyed about this place was the bread. I was excited to come here based off of the good reviews but this was very underwhelming and disappointing.More

Loved the Salmon Tacos and Warm Seafood Salad. Kelly and Sabina provided great service. Our dog, Harry, sat with us and they offered to bring water for him. Very thoughtful. Tables were well spaced apart and everyone was masked up. A heater by the table...kept us comfortable when the temperature dropped. Lovely setting. Highly recommend.More

First impression of restaurant was not great. We had reservation, got seated on time then did not see a waitress for more than 20 minutes. We saw several other tables get seated then get waited on while we waited and waited at our table. Waitress...finally came over and thanked us for our patience but offered no reason why we had to wait so long. Anyway, hopefully that was a unique bad experience because once the service finally started it was efficient and food was very good. My wife had a steak that came with a pasilla chili stuffed with cheese and herbs that was amazing and my pasta dish was excellent. An owner or manager came over about an hour or more after we were there to apologize for the initial wait. That was nice but could have happened much sooner. They did comp our dessert which was nice. I would recommend, hoping the long period of ignoring us when we got there was an anomaly.More

We came across this restaurant by pure coincidence, I m so happy we did ! Real gourmet food with great friendly service and very nice outdoor setting. Tables were far apart and seat were very comfortable We tried the warm seafood salad which was AMAZING....The Thai salmon special on the menu was very tasty. Portions were good, service was very quick and attentive The house special desert Chocolate Water was very nice and so was the cheesecake Rather rare that I cant find any comments or room to improve. May be expand the menu choice a bit ? I texted the address to my friends before I forget it This will be on list whenever I visit SBMore

Great service, food, wine and location. The only thing we missed was the Brown Butter Tart. Maybe after Covid is behind us, it will return to the menu.

Opal meets the criteria of being a nice place to eat safely with good detail to acceptable social distancing and cleanliness. The appetizers and drinks were very good. The main entrees were satisfying but not particularly great. The salmon was good but the chicken marsala...needed more seasoning. Limited desert options. The manager was very friendly and paid attention to customers. I would recommend Opal but do not expect to get blown away. It works for a nice place to eat in Santa BarbaraMore

We went for dinner based on the reviews. We sat outside which was nice and our server was fine. My blueberry lemon drop was wonderful as was our calamari appetizer. My husband had a hard time finding something on the menu as he doesn’t care...for salmon and he cannot have milk products so all of the pastas and pizzas were a no go. We just had filet the previous evening. He ended up with the duck, which he didn’t care for at all. It had a cinnamon taste to it that was just odd, plus it was pretty chewy. I had the chicken pasta, but was surprised by how much cream sauce was in the dish considering the menu description didn’t even say a cream sauce. We probably won’t be back.More

I love this upscale restaurant and I first discovered it when I was taken there for my Birthday! It was so special and such a nice manager and servers. It is a great place to go to when you are going to the Arlington or...Granada or anywhere on upper state. You will feel special as that is what they do.More

This is a comfortable restaurant with good service. A pity about the food. I had basil fettuccine with sautéed tiger shrimp, etc. in a cream sauce. Everything was swamped by the cream sauce. When I eat out I expect a dish better than I could...make. As a mildly competent cook I could easily surpass this dish. Similarly, my wife’s mushroom risotto was tasteless. Both of us could cook a better risotto. How can this restaurant’s standards be so poor? We will not be returning.More
