French ambiance and awesome staff combined with excellent things to eat and friends is a recipe for an awesome Sunday. Stella Mare's in SB over looking the lagoon is a romantic French restaurant. Great for Sunday Brunch and romantic evenings. This Sunday we arrived after 2:30 and ordered from the menu. Stella Burger for 2 of us, 1 Los Patos... More

Thank goodness there is a least one traditional French Restaurant left and Stella Mare's is IT!. So tired of French restaurants changing into Nouvelle French Cuisine. What happened to the Julia Child's classic French. We had made reservations through Open Table on a Sunday at 7:30, our last dinner in Santa Barbara before heading back home. We were greeted and... For a place that bills itself as an authentic French Bistro with a Chef that has taken personal dishes from his years growing up in France, this dish needs some serious reexamination. It was literally tasteless. The duck leg confit with long hours of slow cooking in duck fat with onions, olive oil, garlic etc should lead to a rich... More

My wife and I chose Stella Mare's to host our Rehearsal Dinner for 45-guests on 8/27/2016. We reserved their "Greenhouse Room" for the evening, and it could not have worked out more perfectly. Start to finish from event preparation, to menu creation, ambiance, to meal execution, service and billing, our experience at Stella Mare's was outstanding. I would highly recommend... More

We have eaten at Stella Mare's four times. It is worth the hour drive one way and the hour back home. The wines, food, jazz, and service are extraordinary! Many menu items are gluten free, and in the past the servers have inquired of the chef if the dishes could be prepared gluten free (which they were). Each server we... More

Several visits, same experience: Extremely slow service that is unworthy of their chef who is talented! Much of their menu is hardy fare garnished with flair. Not much view, but very handy to the public golf course and Loreto Plaza on Upper State Street. A on food; F on service.

I reviewed this lovely old restaurant in 2011 and commented on its then fine service, along with the great decor and excellent food. I am sorry to have to give it a much lower rating this time because of the simply abominable service we are currently receiving there at lunch time. On a number of recent visits, we have had... Stella Mare's is in an historic former home and has plenty of charm. The interior of the house part is very French and has plenty of individual rooms for hosting private events. The main dining area is in a greenhouse atrium and is beautiful. We were there for brunch on a Sunday and arrived just after they opened, so we... More

A perfect setting for a quiet small group meal. We were there for dinner on a Friday evening. The restaurant was full, mostly family celebrations. We had a pre-set meal. The first course, a salad was fresh with an exceptional sherry walnut vinaigrette dressing. Delicious! For the second course I opted for the Grilled Salmon vs. the Boeuf Bourguignon. It... More

This classy restaurant on a Wednesday evening (with the George Mamalakis Trio) deserves five stars except for the "Moules Friezes" specialty that consists of dozen of shells with microscopic-sized mussels. Spouse selected that and went home hungry. I had the filet with cognac sauce and peppercorns. Superb. No comment about the rest of the week. The trio only plays on... More

Stella Mare’s is a Santa Barbara local’s favorite for lunch, brunch and dinner. French country recipes are offered with fresh fish, meats and poultry cooked on our wood-burning grill. Stella Mare's is perhaps one of the best examples of Santa Barbara style. Located between Montecito and Santa Barbara, this charming restaurant is housed in a historic landmark Victorian home, overlooking the Bird Refuge. The decor is French Provincial meets Santa Barbara style. The glass Greenhouse, with stunning views of the Bird Refuge, has cozy sofas, a fireplace, and a full service bar. “I'm so fortunate all over the world to find places that are very good that I can recommend, but I do have a short list of absolute musts. If you come anywhere near Santa Barbara, this is a must - Stella Mare’s, first of all, is so casual and homey. It's beautiful to look at, very relaxed atmosphere, and secondly the food is fantastic!” - Rachael Ray, Rachael’s Vacation Show - Food Network A bientot!
