There's a wait, but it's worth it! We were driving through the area and saw the reviews were amazing and we couldn't agree more! You'll need to order 2 items per person, they're pretty small, but very reasonably priced. Make sure you bring cash too, they don't take cards.

Unusual Mexican food that is excellent. I think #16 (roasted chili pasilla with marinated pork) is the best in my opinion and one of the best things I have ever eaten! But everything is superb. Sometimes there is a wait but it goes fast and is worth it. I can see why this was one of Julia Child's favorite places.... More

Really the best Mexican street food I can imagine. Long lines for a reason. One can observe the food preparation - everything is very fresh. Very strong recommendation!

I had the best tamal ever here. also, something they call 'alambre de filete'--a mix of bell peppers, onions and tritips (a local cut of beef; think carne asada), oerfect for stuffing into the hand made, super fresh tortillas they provided. this place is seriously good. it's a little shack with a covered patio and the tiniest kitchen, but they... This place isn't easy to find and it isn't close to other tourist attractions. It was actually recommended to us by someone who had lived in Santa Barbara for many years. It's a simple self-service place and you need patience because obviously word has gotten around and a lot of locals come back again and again. The food is the... More

It had been way to long since my last time there. When my girlfriend and I decided to drive to SB today I set my GPS to make this place our first stop. It was her first time and it was only my second. My favorite dish today was the #16 roasted pasilla pepper stuffed with cheese and slices of... More

For me this is as good as food gets. Everything is simple, but absolutely perfect. If you haven't been, I highly recommend this place. I'd give it six stars if I could!

Meh. Haven't eaten there in years (so please take this into account) but it always seemed to me that this place lived on a few good reviews (by Julia Childs among others)...but it never failed to disappoint. There always used to be a long line out the door. Not so much now.

Many of our friends and relatives love this place so you should give it a try. The ambience is festive and feels like a slice of SB life. The flavors are good, but there is a lot of oil in some dishes and we don't always feel we have been so good to our bodies. It can be fun, though,... More

Every time I come to this place, the food is delicious and they always serves high quality food. Any one of the items on the menu is good and my favorite is the mushroom tacos on the specialty menu - outstanding! There's typically a line out the door, but definitely worth the wait.
