Located in a nondescript strip mall, Kappo Sui is an absolute gem. You might drive by dozens of times without noticing it. That would be unfortunate. Not “fancy” but perhaps one of the most faithful and authentic Japanese restaurants in Southern California. In an assuming little strip mall on Santa Ana Ave just south of Bristol St is a little Japanese restaurant called Kappo Sui. The food here is excellent. We dropped by on a whim and we were definitely not disappointed. The menu has an extensive...array of ala carte options, many tailored to the tastes of the Japanese nationals who made up 99% of the clientele (we were the other 1%). I would recommend you try several different small plates and look for options you wouldn't normally find. There are a few of the standard combinations if you'd prefer (beef teriyaki with tempura, for example). By the way, the tempura is excellent - light and crispy. The restaurant is at the south end of this small strip mall on the south east side of Santa Ana Ave. If you're coming from Bristol, turn south onto Santa Ana and the restaurant will be on your left. Parking and tables are both at a premium so come early or be prepared to wait. We arrived at 6:00 and ended up sitting at the counter. By the time we left at 7:00, the place had a line and all seats were filled. It was kinda fun sitting at the counter as you could watch the chefs cook. I highly recommend this location if you're looking for authentic Japanese fare. Dinner for four: $80.More
Sometimes I stumble into a restaurant during my travels accidentally and am blown away by the caliber of the service and quality of the food. This was certainly the case with Kappo Sui. The sashimi was some of the best I've ever had which I...followed with the delicious beef teriyaki and finally the incredible red bean ice-cream. The Japanese food here is so delicious! You have to be there early, because it gets crownded quick! It is very close to the Ayres hotel. You can walk there in 2 minutes! It is a very small place.

This is one of very a few authentic Japanese restaurants in OC, and they serve darn good food here! I have gone to this place for many times and many years, and they have not changed at all. Because the head chef control and creates...what the Kappo Sui offers. You can't go wrong at this place eating Japanese food and make your tummy happy!! I have eaten at Kappo Sui many times, and my most recent lunch was as good as this place has always been. In the past there have been many times that I have eaten there that I was often either the singular or there was...only a few patrons of non Japanese descent in the busy restaurant. This speaks volumes of how good the Japanese food is. They always have a chalkboard menu of items written only in Japanese. I have often just looked at some of the dishes coming from the open kitchen and requested it telling the waitresses I wanted to order the item. The sushi is excellent as are the noodle dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant located at the end of a small strip center.More
