At the end of a very exhausting day which started with a flight from Detroit to LAX followed by a drive through the curves and canyons of Sequoia National Park with a few heart pounding hikes we were worn out and driving down a dark and desolate highway tired and pretty hungry. We passed this place with a snap of... More

This is by far Sangers best restaurant. Narrow choices, but unique menu items. It is a bit pricey, but is somewhere that is worth the journey for a location and ambiance fitting of a special occasion. The generous bar area is a nice compliment for a casual drink or lunch.

I like that the owner's stayed with the old school house theme, more casual than upscale. There are two dining areas, the bar and the main dining, which looked like it was the former cafeteria of the school with a stage on one end, each dining area it seemed had its own menu. We ate in the main room. Dinner... More

We stopped here on our way back from a day trip to King's Canyon National Park. We were seated very promptly on a late Saturday afternoon. Service was very good and the staff very friendly. We selected to be seated in the tavern side of the restaurant since that side had the burger and sandwich menu along with the full... More

Met with some friends for drinks and dinner. I can give the drinks 5 stars. Try the Teacher's Pet--perfect summer drink. The mules are tasty too. Dinner was a hit as well. Not blow your mind but very good. I would give the overall rating a 5 if not for the service. She was fine but did not go out... More

Great, casual spot, with a high end feel. Fantastic food as good as any high end restaurant. Definitely a go to place.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local b&b. We were told that the tavern side was a little more casual and the menu a little less expensive than the dining room menu. We sat on the tavern side but thought we were given the dining room menu. We ordered but after we ate we asked the waitress if... More

We always enjoy a drive through the citrus, plum and peach groves of the Central Valley. With a pleasant drive across the Kings River and through the twin cities of Centerville (Pop.392) and Minkler, to visit our favorite Old School Restaurant & Tavern. The trip to the School House for some fine dining; creatively designed and cooked to perfection, has... More

You might not notice this restaurant as you drive Hwy 180 to Sequoia/Kings Canyon NP. But I recommend you do! Stop for lunch, dinner or brunch on Sunday. You will be impressed and satisfied. Prior to becoming the SchoolHouse Restaurant/Tavern, this location was a less than safe or appetizing place. It changed hands frequently and was in disrepair. Now, it... More

We dined here at the recommendation of a nearby lodging. We had previewed their dinner menu beforehand and didn't really feel like that type of food so we sat in the tavern area. There were several folks at the bar area and then a larger party in the middle. It took awhile for anyone to notice that we had came... More

Description
In a country school house established in 1921, just north of Reedley and east of Sanger, School House Restaurant & Tavern offers vast array of experiences unlike any other. Watch the game in our country roadside tavern, dinner in our historical dining room a view of the kitchen, or the outdoor fire lounge patio looking out to our gardens at the base of the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The food represents a modern approach to classic dishes we all crave, with a focus on farm fresh, local ingredients. Our service staff is knowledgeable and attentive, yet relaxed and friendly. School House offers an extraordinary dining experience that's not just about food and drink, it's about creating lasting memories.
