This is the Place I was referencing inside the Fish Market. Very good, fun atmosphere, great food and excellent people. Totally worthwhile.

Located Upstair of the Fish Market, they have tablecloth and a few higher end dishes, plus you can order all the items in the downstairs menu. If you want a bit more privacy, this is a good choice.

Higher end than Fish Market. Top of the Market has better service and better fish selection. Very good, excellent for date night.

My wife & I were very pleased. We considered downstairs (The Fish Market) but choose upstairs instead (Top of the Market). It was quiet and overlooking a lagoon. We choose a booth and STILL had a nice view. Collin's service was attentive, knowledgeable and personable. Ask for him. The food was very good. We ate a light lunch which included... More

I'd driven by this restaurant at least 100 times and never went in. One day recently, I was looking for a quiet lunch spot that was close to a meeting location in San Mateo and found this restaurant on Open Table. I was delightfully surprised. It is a real working fish market with two on-site dining options, one casual on... More

Top of the Market is the "restaurant inside a restaurant" at the Fish Market on Norfolk Street in San Mateo. The Fish Market maybe a chain but only a few locations have the "Top of the Market" restaurant inside. In San Mateo, the staff are very friendly, the much shorter - but more than adequate - menu is fantastic and... More

My wife and I met another couple for dinner at The Fish Market, and with a wait there, we opted to go upstairs to Top of the Market. It's a very different vibe up here, more quiet, understated, and upscale. The view overlooking the lagoon is quite picturesque, even on the rainy night in which we visited. Both the clam... More

We ordered 3 soups (clam chowder), 2 kid meals, Canadian Lingcod with rice and roasted vegetables and Pacific Ono with au gratin potatoes and roasted vegetables. The interior of the "restaurant" is cheap in comparison to the food prices and not very inviting. Roasted Vegetables consists of mainly broccoli and zucchini. inside the chowder were pieces which could easily be... More

Views are great and our tuna poke salad was a hit. My entree of linguini and seafood was overpowered by too many onions and garlic for my taste. It ruined the delicate flavor of the scallops and crab which should be enhanced not covered up. Fried calamari had no flavor. My associates said they enjoyed their meals however. Our server... More

I have been to this very pleasant lovely small seafood restaurant before. I had always enjoyed the experience. The place is very pleasant intimate and relaxing. The services has always been excellent. However the food never made enough impression, neither memorably delicious, nor outrageously horrible. We decided to return to the Top of the Market for a family get together... More
