It started with getting a cocktail containing a wedge of lime which was used previously for zesting, and got progressively worse. When I made the reservations I asked if the lunch menu was it or if there would be specials-- I was assured there would be specials; however, once there the only "special" was the type of soup for the... I remember the previous Capellini, the menu was better. What we had was okay the sugo was good but had to send it back because it was way under cooked & I like my pasta al dente. Also believe it's way overpriced it was $100. For a split salad, 2 plates of pasta, split desert and 2 glasses of wine.... More

Came on a Friday nite with a reservation. The hostess didn't acknowledge the reservation and my request for a large table. Menu was not too inspiring. With only 6-7 entrees they did not have the swordfish or the baccala. The fried calamari were so undercooked as to be unchewable. The replacement dish-carpaccio- was so cold it was almost frozen to... More

We had a bad initial experience so wanted to give the newly reopened Capellini another chance. The original restaurant was one of our favorites and unfortunately this is not. Not too busy a Friday night and service was better this time, but the menu and food didn't encourage us to come back. My baked eggplant was too cheesy and not... More

Decided on Capellini's for lunch to try out the restaurant since it had reopened under new ownership. What a disappointment. Service just average but the food was just tasteless. Menu choices also limited. Definitely nothing like the old Capellini....

It's marginal Italian dishes, low level wine list. The staff is stressed and well intentioned in a modest settings. The table, chairs and tableware at a primary level to business. The clientele not formed at this time, but tending towards medicare. The dishes were roughly cut and arranged and served. There is a lotion that the place is struggling, with... More

Same place, same name, new owner, new chef...disappointing. Great service. Limited menu. The old Cap was great but failed as a younger crowd went for smaller, faster venues in newly hip San Mateo (I know, really? Really and forget parking). The new Cap has a limited menu with forgettable entrees, wilted salads and disappointing calamari. We did't try the bar... More

Had a quick lunch here. Very good atmosphere and service. The gnocchi was good with a simple tomato sauce. The bread is great too

We wanted to revisit and see what has changed since they re-opened. The Decor is the same, the menu is much more focused and paired down. We had a great service, the pasta was great, and the special halibut was even better. If you are looking for italian food in the peninsula, give this place a try, they won't disappoint.
