We went with a multi-generational group to Sushi Sam's. The sushi was delicious and very fresh. It's a great gathering place for my family, as we fly in from the east coast to join up with friends and family in the Bay area. Such a great time, and the food has been very consistent --yummy!

I really tried to eat here and waited a long time (one person). But nothing doing. The food looked fresh and delicious and it is clearly wildly popular. But because of the long never-ending wait, and then I peeked at the menu and saw the prices, I walked back over to Pacific Catch and had a sweet comfortable meal for... More

Ordered the omakase and loved it! Slow-cooked marinated octopus appetizer was tender and delicious. Highly recommend the green tea tiramisu for dessert. Amazing sushi with great service. This place is great so expect to wait if you don't have reservations.

Sushi Sam's is tiny, cramped, crowded and busy during lunchtime. Not to mention the parking in downtown San Mateo sucks! But the food and the prices make it worth a visit. The portions are generous and the bento boxes have some great choices. My favorite is the chicken teriyaki with shrimp tempura, three California rolls, rice, miso soup, and salad!... More

Have been going to Sam since his Isobune days when he was still a young lad, and I was a little kid. Sushi Sam's serves consistently good and fresh sushi and Japanese dishes. The line is always out the door, so come early if you want to get a seat. My family favorite is the Chirashi Sushi which comes with... More

My long time friend since grammar school wanted a local place for some fantastic sushi and Sushi Sam was the place We had the C choice. A lot of variety of different kind of sushi and a large Sapporo. Perfect for the 2 of us.

You can expect good sushi here for the San Mateo area. Has a good selection of sushi grade fish and nigiri and sashimi options are good

The Omasake Menu is always the way to go. Sitting at the counter is best! Can be very busy, no reservations, so be prepared to wait 45 minutes or so. It's worth the wait for sure. Can't wait to go back.

Sam's is a great neighborhood japanese place to eat. If you are lucky enough to visit Sam's you will be very pleased and well rewarded for making this choice. Blest. When you drive by, looking to park; you will see a crowd on the sidewalk in front. Curses, they got here before you. If they are open, there is always... More
