About
Tavern at the Mission is the creation of restaurateur David Wilhelm who have separately developed numerous Orange County restaurants over the past 25 years, including Savannah Chop House, Jimmy's Famous Tavern, Barbacoa, Chat Noir, Diva, Sorrento Grille & French 75. David is a resident of San Juan Capistrano & created this new concept as a neighborhood gathering spot for drinking, dining, socializing, and all of life's celebrations. It's stunning view of the historic San Juan Capistrano Mission is the backdrop for a casual lunch, relaxing dinner, Sunday brunch, happy hour or late-night snacking. It has a large, beautiful, tree covered, pet friendly patio. Their 'Tumbleweed Bar' is a warm, sexy homage to the cowboy and equestrian culture of San Juan Capistrano.

It was my first time going to Tavern at the Mission, San Juan Capistrano, California. Loved the restaurant, the food and our server Bettie was the best and very knowledgeable about the food, drinks and answered every question we had. Food and drinks were wonderful and big portions. Highly recommend this beautiful restaurant.

First visit . Christmas lunch with a dear friend and it was perfect . Very cozy and decorated for Christmas. The menu selection was exceptional and with difficulty because there were so many options. I chose comfort food .( Boneless fried chicken , mashed potato and green beans ). It was off the chart delicious and with beautiful presentation. Service was very attentive and we didn’t feel rushed . Room noise was at a minimum for easy conversation. Great salad and sandwich options too . There is an outdoor patio and paid parking just outside front door . The mission is across the street and playhouse next block over, so great location for visit and shopping nearby . They take reservations.

We had the curried chicken with papaya and the Caesar salad for lunch. Both were incredibly tasty and so fresh! Would highly recommend this place. We finished off with the coconut cake that comes with a scoop of ice cream. It was rich, light, and tasted like it just came out of the oven. Service a bit slow esp. given all the servers but the food was worth it.

This place has great atmosphere and the wait staff is very polite, friendly and helpful. The food was very good. I want to go back and try the dinner menu as we were here for lunch and had a very good flatbread pizza with arugula and prosciutto and young greens salad, didn't really eat a whole lot. But it was enticing and we will be back.

Fantastic food, service and lovely patio. Complete with blankets in case of a chill. We shared the fried chicken sandwich and the lobster and shrimp sandwich. Both were huge and absolutely delicious. The server was a delight. 5 stars all the way. I would highly recommend a visit

Coming from LA County, we have been meeting our San Diego friend's here for years. The food is consistently good and the staff os all friendly and professional. Today we were lucky to have Lucas as our excellent waiter. Parking is easy and it's close to the freeway and the Mission.

First time there since ownership changes. We were very pleased with our experience. The food choices are awesome and the food we ordered was great. Our server Cameran K was knowledgeable and friendly. Also he kept a close eye on us the whole time asking if we wanted anything more.
We'll be going back with friends as soon as we can.

We met a large group of friends here for drinks and dinner on a Wednesday. We started at 5PM and we had the regular menu, which looked great, plus the Happy Hour menu, which I think went until 6PM, later on Mondays.
Lots of options, we shared the sliders (the chicken was better than the beef) and the Brussels Sprouts, which were delicious.
Service was excellent, prices were very good for the Happy Hour. $4 off of many different wines and deals on spirits and beer, too.

An early Mother's Day lunch with family. A beautiful day for patio dining...yummy food...and excellent service. Bettie was the best server I've ever experienced.

Very delicious: Coconut crusted shrimps, the Buddha bowl. Very friendly and fast service from Rubin. Nice surrounding. Three reasons to return!
