We are a NY pizza shop. We serve slices and whole pies. I moved out here from NYC back in 1998 and within a couple of months, I started talking about a pizza shop. I wasn’t going to leave my hi-tech job to do it, but when corporate life was no longer for me, A Slice of New York was born, September 2006. For a slice of home, come on in (limited seating and parking).

Awesome pizza. Legit NYC style. Ever since moving to CA 10 years ago, I’ve complained about the lack of legit pizza out here. This place has saved me. They’ll do the crazy weird California 38-topping pizza if you want, but I love the straight cheese or pepperoni. They also cut it into eight slices. This seems obvious, but also most CA pizza places cut their large pies into 12-16 slices. Love this spot. Classic, not fussy, nice staff. I drive an hour to get one of these pies. They’re that good.

Pizza was great!

The pizza was excellent and the cashier was friendly. The only issue was that we were told it would be ready at a certain time - and it wasn't - we ended up waiting approx 20 minutes. As the pizza is quite good, there were quite a few people waiting - but all outside with masks.

The store & staff is super disorganized. We arrived on Saturday evening at 17:30. I waited in line for 10-15 minutes just to order. We ordered to eat in. There was no one assigned the task to take orders. The staff would assist one customer then leave. Then a different person would eventually arrive and assist another person, then leave. Then another person would arrive, help one person and then leave. Their lobby is the size of a coat closet. After finally ordering, I had to step outside to await my pizza - it was just too crowded inside. I stood outside for 45 minutes awaiting our pie to be cooked... After no word, I pushed my way back into the closet and stood in line for 10 more minutes to check on it. The staff said my pizza had been ready for 25 minutes (cooling off for 15, 10 minutes standing in line waiting). There is no one advising people waiting outside that their pizza is ready. No outdoor loudspeakers. They only call out orders indoors and by WHAT YOU ORDERED, not your name or an order number. The system they have sucks. The pizza was good, but the chaos and disorganization was SUPER FRUSTRATING. At least they were able to provide true to form TERRIBLE New York style customer service!

Paolo, I reached out to you to get more information, and you chose not to answer. That's fine. But to them go on yet another site like this and spew your hate is, well, unbecoming. You seem to make up times and create false statements to make your experience sound like you were put through hell. Let's recap: 1. You come to our shop (first time visitor...thanks for giving us a try) on a Saturday night at 5:30pm. 2. 5:30pm is a pretty busy night. 3. I some to the crew, they don't recall any in-house wait times over 35 minutes (pretty good as phone orders were over an hour) 4. When you placed your order for a whole pie, you must likely paid and we took your name. I don't know what you ordered, so I can't track it exactly. 5. We have you a wait time. You might not have noticed, but we have a sign showing any pickups can just walk right up to the front on the right to pick up an order. 6. We do not have a speaker like a drive through, that's correct. We tell you a time, and the order is ready on time. You can always come in early to see if it is ready. 7. When ready, we call out your name, not what you ordered. If you are outside when we call your name, you won't hear it. We don't treat you like a number, so you don't get a number. You have a name and we use it. 8. Your order stays on the oven until you come in to pick it up. We do call out names regularly of orders sitting on the oven but picked up. 9. Your comment about waiting on line for 10 minutes in your disparaging yelp review said you needed a box for left overs. Yet here, it was because you needed to pick up your pizza. Which is it? 10. If you did have leftovers, why did you need a box if you got it in a box? When you're hungry, time can feel a lot longer than it is. You said we told you 45 min wait, yet when you showed up, you were told it had been on the oven for 25 min. We you that late? It's not like we made the pie 25 min early. It is possible 25 min for your order and you heard 45 min. You are a first time customer and we want to make every experience the best it can be. I'm not are what set you off about our employee owned business, but it is unfortunate. We have been in business for over 13 years, we became a worker cooperative in 2017. WE CARE ABOUT ALL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES. That being said, we don't tolerate being rude or disrespectful to our team, our customers, our our business. And to see your inconsistent statements on two review sites says a lot. We are not a corporate chain. You want a number and an outside speaker, go to a fast food place that has that. We are a small, independent pizza shop doing the best we can to take care of our customers and make the best NY pizza we can. Maybe we are not a fit for you. Service was terrible

My husband and I were in SJ for our anniversary and wanted some great pizza, and we heard great thing about slice of NY. However our experience was terrible. We ordered a small pepperoni it took over 45 minutes to get our small pizza, we ordered and paid for 4 ranches they didn’t give us those. We asked for the ranch and they told us to grab our own out of the fridge there were only 2 in the fridge so we left anyways because we couldn’t get any help. Since they won’t let you eat outside, if you have ordered a Togo pizza we drove back to our hotel and the pizza was cold. PIZZA MY HEART WAS WAAAYY BETTER!

Before I respond to your comments below, I'd like to offer a "do over" for you. Anniversary celebrations are hard enough to get right, but when a business you have never tried lets you down, that just sucks. So, I'd like to make that up to you. We always try to give an accurate time on when something is due so you can plan you time effectively. We asked for the ranch and they told us to grab our own out of the fridge there were only 2 in the fridge so we left anyways because we couldn’t get any help. >>>We keep our sodas, water, salads, and dressings in the cooler in front so people can grab what they need. If we run out, it happens, we usually have some in the back that we have to get. I am sorry you couldn't get someone's attention, or if you did, you didn't think they were helpful. Since they won’t let you eat outside, if you have ordered a Togo pizza we drove back to our hotel and the pizza was cold. >>>As you saw, we are a very small shop. We don't have a lot of tables or places to eat. We do ask that if you order "to go" that you actually take it to go as we have put the items in a box. If you want to eat here (there is no cost difference to you), just tell us you want to eat it here. We will bring it out on a tray and give you plates. What we don't want, and frankly see too often, are customers to say they want it "to go" or in a box, eat it at the counter or at a table, and then trash the box. It is a waste. It costs money and is bad for our environment. So, we are very deliberate when we ask if it is "for here" or "to go" so we can serve you appropriately. If you have any leftovers, we are happy to box it up. PIZZA MY HEART WAS WAAAYY BETTER! >>>We hope you will give us another try. I am guessing that you have been to other places more than one time. It would be a shame if you draw your conclusion on our shop based on a single experience. I know we can offer you better.

Next best thing to NY Pizza

I just returned from a visit to NYC a week ago. Of course I had to have some NY pizza while I was there. I was in San Jose for a passenger drop off @ SJC and made it a point to stop here. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The pizza was De-lish! It's the closest I've had to NY pizza. Amici's was close but "A Slice" was definitely there. I had a slice there but ended up buying a whole pie to take home. I also tried their cannoli's & was not disappointed. I will be back!

Closest to NY Pizza Around

Left NY after 52 years and travel the country for business - the best pizza outside of NY. Super thin crust, perfectly salty and holds up to the NY food test. You even get the feel of walking into a typical, loud, busy and friendly pizza place.

NY by the slice

You can get a whole pizza here but I always go in for a big slice of fresh pizza when I have a craving! Quick, friendly, small stand up or outside chairs but mostly take out. Also if you can wait a bit longer their calzone is awesome. They will customize the fillings too!

Superb New York style pizza to go

Very authentic New York. The decor, the pizza (delicious) and the buzzing atmosphere. There are a couple of seats to eat there - but this is a take out, not a restaurant. The pizza is excellent - if you like NYC style thin crust of course.

Quick friendly service. Parking is kind of weird as it’s right off the street in a very small parking area. Definitely worth the money $10 two slices and a soda Will have to go back again when I’m out this way.
