Pastrami!

This is the place to go for hot pastrami, corned beef and other New York delights. A good wine and beer selection. However, it ain't cheap. I think prices are somewhat inflated for the drinks. Food not as much.

Went here with kids because I wanted pastrami, a la NYC style. Ended up not even ordering the pastrami sandwich. Go figure. Actually was not that hungry. It was a mind craving not a stomach craving. Instead, got the philly cheesesteak with grilled onions. a pastrami chopped salad (I never ever order salad as a meal. This show how really... More

Having just moved to the area, wanted to try this place reported to have great pastrami, and pleased to say the reports were right. I went one evening during the week, the place was packed but was able to have a seat at the bar. Pastrami was fabulous, service attentive, and they have an excellent selection of beer on tap.... My son, who lives in San Carlos, is addicted to the garlic fries at Refuge, a hole-in-the-wall bar on Laurel Street. I'm his uncool mother, and I wasn't so enamored. I will say that the cheesesteaks were pretty good. My husband and I lived most of our lives in the Philly area. We know cheesesteaks, and it is hard to... More

I have eaten here a couple of times. My niece found this restaurant from the TV show (guy with spiky blond hair). I compare pastrami to the mecca-Katz Deli in NYC. Refuge would rate a solid B+/A-. It is not a deli but I understand they make their own pastrami. They have a great selection of beers including many varieties... More

They brine, smoke, steam and slice their own pastrami. Best in the Bay area. Not cheap, but they pile their sandwiches high with the best pastrami this side of the Mississippi. Great pickled vegetables. I'm not a real beer fan, but their selection of beers is pretty amazing.

I travel a lot for business and I have had some of the best pastrami sandwiches in New York. After hearing about this great place for happy hour, decided to give it a try. After a long wait(45 min), we were seated at a middle table squeezed between 2 other tables. our table was 10 inches away from the table... More

This is our go to place for a great pastrami sandwich. It's too big for one person so my husband and I always share it w/fries. It's on the pricey side but good quality food.

Fantastic tender hand-cut pastrami on heavenly rye bread. Great draft beer selection. Best pastrami in Northern California. Terrific sandwich selection.

I remember the day this awesome place opened. I love the idea of a totally different place to dine in San Carlos. Having just returned from Belgian, I had some knowledge of Belgian ales. I appreciated Refuge immediately! The prices here are a bit on the high side for their beers but it's a fun time. They also have a... More
