Really good food and great service

I came here with friends for lunch recently, the first time I've been here. I'd made lunch reservations but we were running late - I called to let the restaurant know and was told that they would only hold the reservation for 15 minutes but that they shouldn't have any trouble getting us a table if we were later than that. We ended up being about 25 minutes late but sure enough, we were seated right away in a nice booth. Service was very quick and friendly. I ordered a grilled chicken salad, with local greens, sliced grilled chicken, tortilla strips, and a honey-lime vinaigrette and peanut sauce - really delicious. Our food came out quickly and we finished our meal in about 45 minutes without feeling rushed at all. Very impressed with my experience, and I'll certainly be back if I'm looking for a place to eat in the Rutherford area.

An anniversary to remember

My wife wanted to come here for our 25th anniversary this week. We made the drive from west of Sonoma in about an hour due to traffic. No problem at all. We sat outside which was very nice. We were shown a limited menu of five or so items due to the current state of affairs in the restaurant industry. My wife ordered a monitor and I a glass of champagne to start. We followed with an appetizer of guacamole and chips. My wife had the prime rib sandwich and I had smoked salmon. Both were excellent. My wife took home a portion of her sandwich for the following day. She simply loved her sandwich. My smoked salmon came with about ten slices of toast and a creamy spreadable sauce for the toast. The salmon was about five ounces and was very tender with the right amounts of smoke to over take the flavor of the salmon. We have not been to Rutherford Grill for several years as we live about an hour and a half away. Still consistently good as always. We enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the cool breeze and comfortable setting. Will come back again. Next time with friends.

Best $22.00 French Dip Sandwich Ever

We were here just last week, but the French Dip was calling. They had a Shrimp Cocktail Special, and it was perfect. 5 huge prawns and a great cocktail sauce (had to add 2 scoops of horse radish). The French Dip, as usual, was fabulous. The bread is made right there and is excellent, and they use Prime Rib cut of beef...piled high. My wife had their Cucumber Salad, which she really likes. We will come again, and without a doubt, i will again order the French Dip Sandwich.

Disappointed

The portions have gotten much smaller. The corn bread we loved was dryer than usual and the size of the burgers have decreased significantly. They had more cheese than meat. They don't serve fountain drinks nor refills anymore, instead you get a little bity tiny coke glass bottle. Erased it from my list of favorites. Not worth the money. Service was good and open kitchen cooks outstandingly professional.

So disappointed Bring back original corn bread

Have been going to grille for years and Drive from east bay often just to enjoy their signature small skillet corn bread. During our LAST visit had good service but food wasn’t up to par. My wife’s garden burger was cold and la lacked flavor. Beloved corn bread now served in a small cup containing bite sized pieces with little flavor. Needless to say I won’t be driving an hour or more for cornbread in the future. Guess I’ll have to find a new favorite restaurant

Surrounded By Napa Royalty

Sitting in this establishment, looking across the street at the Inglenook estate, I realized that this restaurant is surrounded by some of the world’s greatest vineyards. The food is simple, filling and extremely well prepared. We started with their skillet cornbread, and it should not be missed. I followed with the sausage platter, consisting of 2 excellent, housemade, and grilled wursts and a very juicy chicken thigh. All this was accompanied with s very creamy Cole slaw. My wife had the butter nut squash quesadilla, which had a delicious corn, avocado and tomato salad accompaniment. The service was friendly and thorough.

Timing is Everything!

We were starving after touring several vineyards in Napa and wanted a light lunch before tackling the next vineyard. The Rutherford Grill was just the place. Located on the main road in Napa (in Rutherford). Only thing is that because of its good location, it was jammed ! However, time passed quickly while waiting for a table inside as we enjoyed cocktails outside in very comfortable Adirondack chairs under a pretty umbrella. The Anubis Blanco and Tanqueray bevies were delicious. Inside, the place was packed - sort of like a NJ Diner at lunchtime! Very festive, & jumpin. More bevies while waiting for our lunch of Caesar & Rock Shrimp Salad, and a Giant Iceberg Wedge with tons of real Blue Cheese Dressing + Blue Cheese Crumbles. If the tables are fully booked, you can sit at the very large U shaped bar and have lunch there. Fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant. Timing is everything though. Try to get there before the lunch crowd.

Everything was outstanding

I hadn't been to the Rutherford Grill for a couple of years. We were up valley picking up a wine shipment and stopped at Rutherford Grill. We got the French Dip sandwich, cucumber salad wild rice salad, the house salad and cornbread. Everything was so flavorful and satisfying. I didn't remember how good it was. Never disappointed!!

Open for take out & Picnic during Covid-19

Wanting to get out of town after 2 months in lock down we went to Napa - one of my favorite places. We did take out lunch and picnic near Rutherford. Order on line and go in and pick up your lunch. Bring utensils and paper napkins. All of the wine tasting rooms ion Napa are closed right now but if you are a member you can do pickup. Many have their own outdoor picnic areas for members. Great place to escape during these hard time. The french dip sandwich with horseradish is well prepared. Great job RG.

Holy Moly! That's a Great French Dip....not to mention the appetizers!

Staff at Freemark Abbey recommend that we come to Rutherford Grill and I can tell you that their suggestion was well worth following. This place was packed with lunch clients and had a great, busy vibe that I haven't seen due to Covid for a long time. So great to see it busy and hopping. My two friends and I sat at the bar - which was a great choice; fast & friendly service - and all three of us had the recommended French Dip sandwich. Such a common lunch menu item...or, so you think. This one, although not prepared in any unique way that I could determine, was the best I've ever had. The beef was fresh and flavorful and the au jus was the perfect addition. Perhaps even better than the French Dip was the smoked salmon appetizer (along with the deviled egg appetizer.) The salmon was a large portion, flakey and wonderfully matched with the buttery fresh toast points it was served with. Do not come here and skip the salmon appetizer, even if you're no fan of salmon. It was great! I highly recommend Rutherford Grill and will be back here for certain.

Overrated food and expensive

We have been going to Rutherford Grill for over twenty years and this is second time the food quality has been ok - far from being excellent from our past experiences. We had a late seating as that was the only reservation available. I ordered the chicken and ribs the waitress came back said they were out of ribs, so I just ordered the chicken which used to come with mashed potatoes - but not any more, so we ordered a side dish. The waitress came back and stated they were out of mash potatoes so settle for a corn side dish. Both my wife and I had chicken and we were disappointed as it was dry and somewhat bland. They have reduced the number menu selections over time and significantly raised prices. They have lost my family as a repeat customer as I will not be going there in future.

Great restaurant with excellent food and service

This was our first visit to the Rutherford Grill and really enjoyed the experience. Four of us were seated at a table and then greeted by our Waitress, Kelli. She took our drink orders and after delivering them she took our food orders. She answered some of our questions about the menu and made some recommendations after we asked her to. We all ordered the combination BBQ Chicken and Ribs Plate which was an excellent choice. We started out with the Cornbread that was very good. The main entrees followed the Cornbread. The 1/2 BBQ Chicken was moist and very tasty. The 1/2 rack of BBQ Ribs were fall off the bones good. All in our group thought the food was great and that Kelli was spot on as our Waitress. She made sure we had everything we needed and was very friendly. I look forward to my next visit to the restaurant.

Spectacular Dinner

The restaurant came highly recommended by locals, and we were told you had to get the Spinach and Artichoke dip. We did order it, along with the skillet cornbread, and both were excellent. I got the bbq grilled salmon, and I’m not kidding when I say it was maybe the best grilled salmon I’ve ever had. Delicious and perfectly cooked. My wife got the cheddar cheese butternut squash enchilada, which she loved. Both of us had the cucumber salad...which was spectacular w goat cheese, jalapeño slices and other veggies. We had their homemade Key Lime pie for dessert. Amazing. Love this place!

A wait that was well worth it!

We had a reservation but arrived early. We waited till our actual reservation time and another 5 or 10 minutes but our meal and the service was well worth the wait. We waited outside on a beautiful patio enjoying the day. We had an incredible meal. Starting with a shared grilled artichoke that was terrific. Our lunches were great, staff was very attentive, keeping our water glasses full.

Not the place we used to know

Rutherford Grill used to be one of our favorite places when visiting Napa, but the food is now tired and the restaurant lacks attention to detail. Dirty glasses and silverware were par for the course. We also visited during COVID-19, and they were not following CDC guidelines. The Hostess was a particular concern with her mask wearing. Will not return, which is a shame!
