Having lived in the Rocklin area for the past 12 years, we have been waiting for a good Mexican restaurant. Almost all we have visited, offer 'canned' food. Mezcalito Oaxacan has some very good entrés with unique dishes. Wife and I tried two - the Chicken Chile Relleno, I had the Shrimp Tacos. Both were very good. Atmosphere is very casual, but the service was top notch. We will be returning often.

Ordered Barbacoa de Borrego which is a slow-cooked lamb shank marinated with guajillo | bay leaves | avocado leaves | other house ingredients | pickled onions. This dish was recommended to me at it was a great choice. Their ceviche is also very good, made w/Sea Bass. I can't wait to go back to try the other items.

Not exactly a decorators paradise...BUT who's eating the decor? Service friendly and efficient, chips and dip delicious! Presentation was excellent and food delicious! A little pricey, as are all the restaurants today, sadly, but food was very tasty and enjoyed !

I was so happy to discover this delightful, authentic Mexican Cuisine in my own community. So many delicious specialties to choose from. Wonderful tacos and the Chili Rellano was fantastic.

I tried this place based on the rave reviews. All I can politely say is the reviewers either have never had good food or they all had really bad head colds. The only item with any flavor was the salsa and that tasted like they had emptied a shaker of black pepper into it. My thinly sliced beef was the gray color and texture of old shoe leather and the black beans were dry and equally tasteless. To add insult to injury, they charge $2 for stale chips and the so-called salsa.

Came back to try some other dishes. The salads are large and can be shared if you are ordering an entrée. I had the tri-tip plate with fresh corn tortillas. Our friends enjoyed veggie plates. All the food is very fresh and service is great. Come here for the food not the ambiance. Lots of beers to choose from.

little hole in the wall but food is fresh and wonderful. I love the shrimp tacos and the chile relleno.

A very small place serves in expensive plates of well prepared Mexican food. Not tex mex. Casual and limited seating but well worth a try. The chicken chilie relleno was good as are the tacos and all the salads. Great choice of veg dishes too. I will come back to sample some of the other dishes.

We have driven by Mezcalito many times without really noticing it. Upon reading about it in Sac magazine and learning it was somehow related to Agave Uptown(Yummy) in Oakland, we decided to try it. We are so excited about finding this local gem; fresh ingredients with wonderful combinations of flavors. We will be going back OFTEN!!

The main dining room of Mezcalito is a crowded, noisy place. An overflow outdoor area, protected with tenting and air conditioning is quieter but no less busy. Our party of four hustled through the dining room to the tent and were promptly greeted by a server. We ordered chips, salsa and an expensive bowl of well-made guacamole. The chips are so-so, the salsa is a tad hot but the guac was great. Two of us selected Oaxacan specialities - I went for the chicken in a red sauce with black beans and rice, while my partner selected Barbacoa, a lamb shank served with a big side salad but no beans or rice. We noted that the restaurant only serves black beans -- no pintos or refritos -- to the dismay of our friends. Our friends went straight mex -- enchiladas and tacos. Everyone agreed the food was very good. Each plate had a pyramid or two of seasoned rice -- not enough rice for me. But the flavors were very good. My chicken (two small thighs and half of a half breast) was very tasty. Service was prompt and the server had ready answers for our many questions. Our group will return to sample more of the menu. Come early! You'll avoid the wait. We arrived before 6. By the time we left, a crowd had formed outside and the parking lot was full.

We've gone here quite a number of times after reading a review in the Sacramento Bee. Delicious meals. Not the typical Mexican menu. Everything is cooked to perfection. Carnitas, seafood, chicken. You name it. The place is a little noisy but not enough to drive us away from the outstanding fare and good service. Love that it is located away from the busy part of Rocklin. Independently owned. Even better!

My niece is a Spanish professor 'back east', and we just happened to be in CA at the same time as she and her husband were, so we met here on a Saturday for lunch. She was in the Oaxacan region of Mexico in March, and wanted to share the tastes of the region with us. What a nice niece she is! The carnitas I had were as good as any I have had in CA, or the US, for that matter. I made a point of going back and telling the back of the restaurant staff that very thing. My wife and niece had chicken dishes (the husband was running the WSER and missed out on this meal), but their dishes were equally well prepared. I would have never known about this jewel if not for my niece and the serendipitous experience of being in the greater Sacramento area at the same time! Try this place, and prepare to enjoy!

A very busy little restaurant with authentic Mexican food. It’s not what I’m used to, but still tasted great. Good sized portions. We drove right past because the sign does not say ‘Mezcalito’ and it doesn’t look like a restaurant. Great experience for out-of-towners. Picture is of the carnitas (shredded pork).

I arrived just as they were changing the open sign to closed. It was no problem. The service was good. Food is different than typical Mexican fare; was not sure what to order and can't say now what I did order, but it was great!

It took me a while to get here. It looked ....I don't know....not like it had real food. But heard good reviews from friends, and off I went. Surprise, fab Oaxacan food. I started simple with the fish tacos. A delight, fresh and we'll made. Chips and salsa are not free. FYI. A disappointment for me. I'll keep trying other dishes in my return.
