I like to cook. A lot. And I like reviewing cookbook, magazine, and blog recipes on eatyourboks.com. So I tend to be a little picky when we eat out especially when prices are higher. I was having hard time finding restaurants in the area while...visiting wineries for few days so I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this restaurant. The party of four picked 3 prefix with three of us selecting filet mignon and one choosing halibut. Our steaks had that perfect beefy taste we all thought were very very good. Sure, I’ve had better steaks (like at Mortons Steakhouse in the US and kobe steaks in Kobe, Japan) but this was still very very good steaks. The potato lake was a bit too overcooked, hard and without much taste. The sauce gribiche for steaks very good. We especially liked the selections of dessert. I had chocolate chocolate almond which hd very rich and silky texture and tasted very good. The service was prompt and friendly. The price is little on high end , but we would certainly like to return again when we are visiting the area.More

Brought 31 people here for a group dinner. They have a nice private room and set up a wonderful 5 course meal for us. Every course was delicious and the presentation was quite elegant. Equally important, the service was great. Courses came out in a...timely manner, everybody getting served in a reasonable time. The kitchen and staff could handle it, no problem. Friendly, professional staff. Delicious food. This place is a real gem!More

The service was excellent and they accommodated us early. Very friendly staff. However, the portions were so small. My ravioli with duck confit contained a pinky nail of duck and 3 small ravioli. Black cod was ok, but leaned a bit on a very fishy...taste. Crème brûée was not warm on top so caramelized earlier. A very expensive dinner that was not worth it, sadly. My dining partner shared my opinion.More

Great ambiance. Food was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. A little on the expensive side and worth at least one visit. Fun place.

We first went to Taste in October of 2018. It was on a Monday night, which is when we went this week. Three years ago the 3-course pre-fixe menu was $34 each; this time it was $72 per person. No, we didn’t have the number...of choices for each course in 2018, BUT the quality was so much better!! Each course this time had more food, but we prefer quality over quantity. My beet salad was not that flavorful and my husband’s mushroom cigars were way too salty. My swordfish was good, but again too salty. My husband ordered the filet mignon medium rare and it was very rare. The chocolate dessert was pretty to look at, but once again there were not outstanding flavors. We were so disappointed to pay so much for lesser quality than we received three years ago. We really hope they return to what they did in 2018. At this time we aren’t sure we are going to give it another try 😑.More

The food was good however the service was bad. We ordered filet mignon medium and medium well and it came out medium rare and raw. We asked for it to go they never gave it to us. Also we asked for a butter and they...only brought a small amount once and wouldn’t bring us anymore. The waitress had a terrible personality she may have had a bad day. I wish the staff was more attentive…we would have gotten our meal to take home and had a more pleasant experience.More

This is an outstanding experience. Menu is limited, but so creative. It is a prix fixe menu so there are choices for everyone. Staff is well trained, informative, helpful and very professional. Wine list is varied, creative and offers wonderful options, by the bottle or...by the glass. A real gem! And no one called me "darlin.'"More

What a wonderful way to have a Mother’s Day celebration! The food was so delicious, the filet and rack of lamb, were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent. Would absolutely return and recommend to friends and family!

We bought a home in Calaveras Co. and have been having a tricky time finding upscale places to dine. Having a few friends staying from out of town, we made wine tasting plans in Plymouth, and while calling the wineries to make reservations, I inquired...after a good place to eat. All of them recommended Taste, so Taste it was! Having checked it out online, we were aware of the limited prix fixe menu during the COVID mess, and made our reservations for indoor seating. When we arrived we saw the outdoor seating was set up on the small park across the street - complete with white linen covered tables and heaters - but we were glad to have chosen indoors as it was a rather chilly evening. There were six of us for dinner, and each of Taste's three course offerings were chosen by at least one of us. I opted for the steak tartare for the first course, which was a special that day. It was exactly what a tartare should be: not overly ground meat, fresh as can be, raw egg yolk, lightly seasoned, served with yummy, what appeared to be house-made crackers. The lamb chops for the second course were heavenly, served on a base of polenta. I opted for the French apple cake dessert, a light, delicious apple-based cake served with a small scoop of apple sorbet that tasted like a fresh mackintosh apple; sublimely delicious! I look forward to returning when they go back to a full menu.More

We are old, well-traveled and consequently, we've eaten at some of the world's best restaurants for many years and have been hearing about Taste since 2006 as we've had family living nearby. On this visit, the hype far exceeded the food... Their signature starter "Mushroom...Cigar" tonight had a bottled or prepared element that threw the flavor profile into an unfortunate place. My wife's squash soup was also a thumb's down ( unfortunately as a direct comparison, she'd had nearly the same soup, but better at the Amador Imperial Hotel the night before ). My steak arrived perfectly cooked but was gristly and tough. The sides were sauteed kale ( which I generally despise but fortunately this was better version ) and kohlrabi latkes which resembled deep-fried kitchen sponges, except cold hard and less flavorful. My wife's "incredible meatballs" were the worst "meatballs" she's ever had, and that's really saying a lot as she's nearly 70, and has been around the culinary world several times eating the best food you can imagine as a worldwide manager for IBM... "Taste" did not need to meet the standard set at "El Bulli" in Spain, ( the worlds best restaurant when we ate there ), or NOMA in Denmark, or even the better Bay Area California spots like Thomas Keller's "French Laundry" in the early days, but Taste has a reputation, and that's a high watermark it is not meeting today...More

This is a chef-owned small-town fine dining restaurant making it work under challenging conditions -- even to the point of making a deal to serve in the town park across the street. Large tables in on the green are 8' apart with white tablecloths. Guests...are required to wear masks unless seated and thus we never felt uncomfortable during our visit. Despite the restaurant being some distance away, the friendly, pleasant staff moves quickly and efficiently back and forth with drinks and plates. For logical reasons, the menu is currently pre-fix. Prices are commensurate with a fine dining restaurant. My wife and I chose opposite items so we could taste most of the menu. I leaned toward seafood/fresh fish. She went for the popular "Mushroom Cigars" and rack of lamb. Deserts were fresh-made and tasty. Overall the highlight of my weekend birthday getaway. Congratulations to Chef Micah and crew on doing it right in every way.More

The tiny park in “downtown” Plymouth California that is. No, here lies a wonderful dining experience and one I am eager to return to despite being almost 400 miles away. The Taste Restaurant there has set up a dining area in the park right across...the street from the restaurant in a really charming space complete with an old fashoned gazebo. Not a bad way to cope with Covid. I had one of the best meals of my life there, I kid you not. The 4 of us ordered a spectrum of dishes. In fact we covered most of the menu. For the forst courseI had their signature starter called a mushroom “cigar” which was a mixture of mushrooms, goat cheese and shallot wrapped in a phylo crust and a delicious”brown” souce. The others had different starters and all agreed they were exceptional. My second course was a wonderfully done filet with sauteed fresh corn, roast fingerling potatoes, smoked oyster mushrooms and again an undefinable but truly delicious sauce. The others had the rack ol lamb, and the swordfish. All to rave comments. My finale was pinapple Kulfi a “popcicle” (a coconut white pinapple mouse) accompanied by a toasted coconut macaroon and a shreded coconut white chocolate sauce, for me a sublime finish. The setting and the attentive and friendly staff complemented the meal.More

We have eaten at the Taste many times before. This time we were served in the park. Limited menu but excellent food. My husband did not feel that the New York steak offered was nearly as good as the fillet that he usually has.
