Wife and I went here while staying in Placerville for a few days. We went early, so we were able to get a seat right away. The menu has lots of excellent choices and it was hard to choose. Wife got a burger, I got...a Fried Chicken dish. The food was good, probably a bit on the pricey side. Shortly after receiving my food the fantastic waitress who had recommended the chicken brought me out a little thing of maple syrup. This was an excellent move, and this nice lady deserves a raise. This took a good meal, and made it GREAT. It really was the perfect complement. It should be standard. I really appreciate this extra care given by this waitress. I really wish I would've gotten her name. She was also very attentive and all over the drinks, so huge thank you to her for really elevating the experience.More
We stopped in after a day of skiing with the family. It was our twins 10th birthday and they brought out their sundaes with Happy Birthday written in hot fudge on plates. The kids loved it. Service was excellent. The French onion soup was delicious,...as was the mushroom burger and the salmon burger. We will be back!More
There are 10 of us who travel to Placerville on the first full weekend of December for a family and friends get together. Last year as well as this year, we had reservations at The Independent in Placerville. Also, like last year, it was raining...cats and dogs when we arrived but our spirits were not dampened. The staff was ready for us and we were seated almost immediately. In the same location as last year I might add. The food was very gourmet and very good. It was a little pricey, but, when you have good food and good service, the price was really not an issue. I highly recommend The Independent. We will most likely eat there again next year.More
We had heard good things about The Independent so decided to try it. What a treat! Our food and service was excellent! I had an appetizer, chicken satay, which came with crispy rice noodles, and also an order of battered french fries. I wondered if...it would be enough fppd but the waiter assured me that it would be. I couldn't finish it, even though I tried, because it was so very, very yummy. My husband had a salmon burger and turnip fries. YUM! Who would've thought that turnips could taste so good! The price was reasonable and the atmosphere was lovely. Our waiter was the best - professional and helpful. I highly recommend this place!More
After cruising the internet and then Main Street we finally decided on The Independent for dinner. One of the main factors was available parking which is a premium in downtown Placerville. We would have preferred to sit on the outside patio but at the time...of our arrival there were no tables available.
The service was great, and the food was artfully presented. We had Tempura Prawns for a starter and they were both large and tasty. The Seared Ahi main dish was awesome and we both were extremely glad we had ordered that. The only drawback is that I felt that the prices were a little steep.More
I and a friend stopped at the Advocate on our way home from visiting Apple Hill area for lunch. The restaurant has a great outdoor seating area (with heaters). It was a bit cold that day, so we ate inside. The inside is very comfortable...and inviting. Tables are spaced nicely. I ordered the salmon tacos. The salmon was moist and tender and the cabbage mixture had just the right amount of seasoning. The french fries that came with my taco were some of the best fries I have ever had out. They were crisp, salty and not soggy. I finished them off! My friend ordered the salmon plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. For dessert, we shared the butterscotch sundae. The sauce is made in the house and may have been a bit overcooked, otherwise it was delicious. Our waiter was fantastic. He gave us just enough attention. He helped us split our sundae by providing the whipped cream and sauce separately. This worked out great. The prices were very reasonable. And, there is free parking. I would definitely go back here, again, if I am in the area.More
Enjoyed a wonderful birthday meal with my wife and daughter at the Independent in Placerville last week. We started with the calamari and an order of battered fries for appetizers. Both were excellent. My wife and I split the butter lettuce salad.as a starter. Our...entrees included a grilled salmon for my wife, buttery fried chicken for my daughter and the skirt steak for myself. There were no leftovers as all the meals were perfect. The service was prompt and attentive. It's rare for a restaurant to get everything right but that was our experience.More
Our family of six enjoyed a lovely Sunday supper on the patio. Our phoned-in reservation resulted in table with a high chair being ready for us. The staff seamlessly accommodated two toddlers with water glasses with lids and paper straws, and a kids menu. The adults...enjoyed fabulous wines by the glass and a diverse menu. The filets prepared sous vide were delicious and cooked as ordered, as was the organic salmon. The chicken tenders and hamburger got two tiny thumbs up. And, if you like dessert, try the warm fruit cobbler. The service was spectacular from start to finish.More
We have been here for lunch several times and came for dinner recently. Portions are generous and the service is excellent. The restaurant has a nice ambiance , a nice patio for outside dining and a full bar.
We shared an appetizer -the tempura prawns...and then tried the Coffee-stout marinated skirt steak, the marbled ribeye with onion straws, the balsamic glazed Australian Frenched 1/2 lamb rack and the seared Ahi with coconut rice. Sides we tried were the truffle mac & cheese and the salt baked potato. Everything we had was prepared and presented perfectly and was delicious.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.Dinner entrees are in the $30-$40 range which includes 1 side.More

I don't recall exactly what we paid, but my impression was that it was moderate. We had a salmon burger sandwich and their sweet potato fries as I recall. Both were fantastic. I share the comments of the others about the ambience and atmosphere. It is a fun place to eat. We were there at lunch time, so if there is a dinner menu with hither prices we may not have seen it. I would certainly go back if I were in the area, and felt we could find items at reasonable cost.
