We always skipped this place because it seemed kind of touristy for some reason, and it was always so crowded. This trip the lady at the wine shop told us that we should check it out because it was Restaurant Month and they had a...More

Giuseppe’s is a restaurant that we enjoy for celebrations, like New Year’s Eve and birthdays because it’s very nice, with a friendly staff, has fantastic salads and is not too expensive. My friend adds that the “Lemon meringue martini is absolutely delicious, as is the...More

We have been to this restaurant every trip we make to Pismo and have always raved about the food. This time we ordered sea bass and the first time it came out it was way undercooked so we sent it back. It came back no...More

We waited over an hour on a Friday night, which is to be expected. The bar is cramped but festive. We had the price fix menu for restaurant month. The Brussels sprouts were amazing. The lemon chiffon cheesecake should be illegal. Our waiter David was...More

We ordered take-out, which was pretty cold by the time we got it back to our hotel, less than two miles away. The kids were immediately turned off by their spaghetti and meatballs, as the spaghetti was as thick as worms. I've never seen anything...More

This was our second visit in two weeks and it was just as good as our first. Waiting at the bar for a table is not a problem. People are friendly and the service is excellent. For example, I got a tickle in my throat...More

Arrived at 6pm, waiting time... minimum 1 hour! Decided to come back later... 8.30pm, waiting time minimum 45mins. As we were hungry, we sat down at the bar and waited those 45mins. By the way, the restaurant doesn't take any table reservations! It's a busy...More

Had the octopus grilled to perfection and lamb lollipops that were the most tender. The place was packed but the server made us feel like we were the only ones there. There was no wait and once the food started coming it didn't stop.

Very good attentive service. One of us asked for water no ice and through the evening different people remembered the choice. Very nice! All 6 of us liked the food. We all got different dishes.

Great food, some pastas home made. We were prepared to wait based on other reviews warning us but there are lots of seats at the bar. Worth the wait.

Description
Giuseppe’s Cucina Italiana was founded in 1988 by Giuseppe DiFronzo as a senior project upon graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Joe, “Giuseppe”, is a son of Italian immigrants who along with the majority of their family emigrated from Bari, Puglia. Puglia is the heel of the boot region of Italy, otherwise known as the California of Italy.Joe grew up in Southern California where he learned his craft working for his four uncles who all owned Italian Delicatessens and bakeries. After fishing in Alaska on a crab boat upon graduation from Cal Poly, Joe returned to Pismo Beach and started his first 8-table restaurant in the old Landmark Hotel in Pismo. Three years later he moved to the historic Plessas Tavern, a Pismo landmark since 1921. This institution fed the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, Bob Hope, Clark Gable, and many dignitaries and stars traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Locals were thrilled to see the eatery reopen and thrive for the last 24 years! Today Giuseppe’s boasts an Italian deli and bakery across the street at 800 Price Street as well. Giuseppe also opened a sister restaurant in 2005 in downtown San Luis Obispo named “Palazzo Giuseppe.” Giuseppe spends his pastime cultivating his family farm from which he produces his 15 year old “DiFronzo Vineyards” wines, featured in his eateries. In addition to wine, he grows, cooks, and serves his organic heirloom fruits, vegetables, and herbs with pride and confidence.
