I do not know where to begin. I have very dear friends in Petaluma. They introduced me to Water Street Bistro many years ago, and for that reason alone I want to make a big SHOUT OUT to them that I love them. The food here is simply delicious. Stephanie, the owner, is a Francophile who works herself to the bone most days of the year but always finds time to haul herself back to Paris. I am NOT a world traveler, but I have been to Paris nine times. The food at The Water Street Bistro is like that of the very finest Parisian bistros. Everything is so very fresh. I've tried just about everything in the last many years, but now I tend to settle on the Fresh Salmon on toast dish because I don't know how much time I have left and can't know how I could possibly duplicate it at home. The coffees are excellent, and the pastries are "to die for," as my cardiologist explained. I see that this bistro/restaurant is #2 or #3 out of hundreds of Petaluma restaurants. For me, it will always be #1. Oh, by the way, did I say that I love this place?

Counter service which I like, so many choices of breakfast quiches, bread puddings, tomato pies, and sweet stuff too. Very good food, very competent help everywhere, everyone knows what ingredients are in the dishes, what table you are sitting at. Great espresso drinks, very reasonable. What's not to like??

We almost passed by this cute intimate Bistro. We were so busy taking pictures of the bridge, we almost miss out on it. We got there just before closing time, we asked some locals that were ordering take-out, "It this place good." They raved about it. Stephenie the owner is a master baker, she makes all of the baked goods. We had the smoked duck salad, eggplant sandwich, and a croissant filled with orange chocolate.
We are planning our next visit soon, this is all during Covid-19.

This is a Very small place, but big on service and the food is excellent. French overtones on most dishes and you will find a Very Nice variety and everything was GOOD. Soup was not processed - salad was fresh and beautiful. Dessert was fantastic.
Love the location - close to the Petaluma River and is a nice quiet place to enjoy outdoor seating. May need a bit of attention to find this place, as is out of the main stream, but worth the search!

We stopped in Petaluma on a whim while driving from Oakland to Healdsburg. We saw the pretty outdoor space of this restaurant and decided to check it out. We are so glad we did! The owners and staff were very nice. The food was great (we got sandwiches and wine.) The chocolate croissant was beyond delicious. We enjoyed talking to a number of locals who said this was their favorite place. Be aware of their hours (they stopped taking orders at 2 on the Friday we were there) so don't miss it!

On a day trip to Petaluma my husband and I came across this restaurant while looking for the pedestrian bridge. We stopped for lunch. It was wonderful. We each had quiche - one swiss cheese and bacon, one chorizo and mozzarella - which came with a large side salad. Both were excellent. While we initially resisted, in the end we caved in and had dessert - an incredibly smooth and rich chocolate tart. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu items.

We were drawn into here by the comments from people in the vicinity. People could not recommend the place enough, and they were not paid “influencers” either! We went in for brunch, where we had a bowl of crab chowder and a piece of quiche. The food, service and atmosphere were very good and its a place I would return too. The owners prepare all their own products.

Well-prepared food served in a charming setting. Porch seating looks out on a cobbled street that leads to an historic bridge over the Petaluma River.

Delicious and nice people.
Had the toast with salmon and good coffee.
Love the corner location near the river, it feels slightly like you've been transported to a different place.
Great place to hangout

The Water Street Bistro had a line this morning as anxious denizens waited for the doors to open. The Bistro never disappoints! Freshly made stradas, quiches, pastries, huge latte filled saucers, the freshest fruit, and other delights awaited. Don't miss this spot when you are in Petaluma. The food and drinks are delicious. The staff is friendly and professional. The decor is kitschy Paris at its best American version. Love it here!
