This is not a review of food, ambiance, food service or waitstaff because I didnt get past the front door. Arrived at 4.50pm without reservation. there were 4 tables occupied out of 20+. "Hostess" was so unbelievably dismissive and rude half my family walked away...before I could finish talking to her. I dont know when your tables are reserved for. I dont doubt that your restaurant is popular and busy. I still think you could either have explained that every table was booked at 5 pm or that we could have a table for an hour but then would have to leave. Instead, I got so put off by the non-welcome, I'm never going to eat here. If the owner sees this - you could increase your income with better table scheduling and maybe some customer care training.More

We went here for Happy Hour on the recommendation of Lee-Anne the Somalier at L‘Aventure and weren’t disappointed. The ambiance was Mexicali and tasteful and the air conditioning wonderfully cool. We were actually just looking for a place to escape the boiling outside temperature but...the food looked so tempting we couldn’t help ourselves and though we weren’t hungry ended up sampling several appetizers. The mezcal margaritas weren’t bad either! The highlight was the fish crudo. It was excellent - citrusy and savory with large chunks of fresh ahi served with tortilla chips. We also had fish tacos which were good and chips and salsa. The salsas were all fresh and tasted homemade and the tortilla chips were perfect- just the right amount of salt and not too oily, and still warm! When we’re back in town we’ll definitely stop in for dinner.More

Chips and three different kinds of salsa were absolutely delicious. They carry AZUL tequila for good tequila fans. The bartenders were fabulous. Absolutely amazing fish dishes. Great fun atmosphere with cool decorations.

I found Fish Gaucho on Trip Advisor. My husband and I went on a Thursday night. I tried to switch to Friday night but it was booked. I know why. We had margaritas, guacamole and cod tacos. They were all delicious. I would highly recommend...this restaurant. Yummy!!!More

We chose this place because it looked interesting. The food was ok, but the problem was the portions. I could not believe that we paid $18 for three very tiny bite sized tacos. When we asked for more salsa for a few remaining chips the...server told us we had to pay $3 for extra salsa. We were shocked that they were charging for extra salsa. The wine portions were also ridiculous. We ordered a full glass a received just a taste. Again, the price was exorbitant. We will never return to this establishment again.More

We wound up in downtown Paso later than we anticipated on a Sunday night. Most places were closing at 8. Fish Gaucho states open later than most of the other restaurants. We hadn't eaten there in number of years, and thought we'd try it again....The menu had been completely overhauled since our last visit. Seemed to be a lot more small plate oriented foods. As like our last visit, we were underwhelmed. The food was fine, but is just pricey for what you get. Nothing I've eaten here has made me want to come back. The service was fine, but we had better at other places. They do have a lively bar scene and an extensive tequila list. The later being a real calling card for them. If you want to go there for the bar, I get it. It's a great place to meet friends and hang out. I doubt we'll have a return visit. For us, there are better options in Paso.More

We enjoyed our visit despite the heat and dining outside. Reservations did not ensure a place within the A/C. Food made up for that. One exception, one in our party didn't like hot spices and the kitchen did not get the message. Shame as all...the rest was good. Crowded on a Sunday, beware and make reservations ahead of time as we encountered many who were sent away.More

First time visiting Paso Robles and this dining experience was a highlight. The restaurant has a lively and energetic atmosphere and not just the standard Mexican fare. A standout was the tequila flights which was a fun change from wine tasting and my first time...tasting such different types of tequila. The staff was friendly and informed and attentive. I loved the drinks and food and would go back if I visit the town again.More

This place has always been a kind of support zone, especially being located right in the middle of the busiest of streets in downtown. They have excellent ceviche and the best margarita's I have ever had. The people are professional and friendly and the service...is fast. Austin is a bartender there I've known for awhile and he has never let me and my family down as long as we lived in this town. Thank you Fish Gaucho.More

Return trip 7 years down the road. Still just OK…we skipped them when we were here in 2018, and the hostess told us the menu had changed, so I had slightly elevated hopes. The menu does seem to have changed significantly, They have moved from...huge burritos to tiny tacos, This trip just started, so I am interested to see if any of the newer restaurants are doing this type of food better. I had their nachos, which had a sprinkling of the promised wagyu ground beef and a lot of refried black beans which were a little worse for having been either run under a broiler or sitting under a heat lamp. Tasted fine, but far from upscale. I did not care to finish them, even though the serving size was not huge. There was a fairly generous serving of sliced avocado as a topping, which was the best part of the dish. Husband’s four fish tacos were tasty, but tiny (when they arrived I joked that I had never seen “silver dollar” tortillas). So. Still not a fan. Not bad, just not that good.More

The first day we were there service was great. The second day I think they were slower and they let the bar back do most of the serving - it was that great. That aside though, the food was pretty good both days, and the...drinks were excellent. It's just what we wanted - some good Mexican food and to try and have some good tecquilla, mezcal and drinks - it didn't disappoint.More

Delish! Fun drinks and fun atmosphere. Halibut was a little dry but if that is my only complaint I’d say overall it was a really good meal. The homemade guacamole with the salsa trio is a must. We also indulged in the oysters. Brussel sprouts...with the main meal was another win! Get reservations ahead of time. It was a packed house!More
