Two of us ate a most satisfying lunch at this open kitchen, modern-minimalist decor, restaurant, Entering past the small sit-at bar we were the first to arrive for the lunch hour and were warmly greeted by the server who was still completing table preparation., We...ordered a glass of Chianti and a glass of Prosecco and a serving of Bruschetta while we looked at the extensive menu and wine card. Both drinks were most pleasant - with the chiant demanding a refill! Ordering a Caesar salad and a Linguine Carbonara which we planned to share was a delightful experience from the server who was increasingly busy as the restaurant filled up and he was the only server. Both dishes were among the best preparations and presentations that we have experienced. The Bruschetta could have made a small portion lunch and was superb. The salad was crisp and cold and correctly, minimally dressed - not slathered in dressing as so often is the case. At $105 plus tip the pricing is mid range. One niggle that the restaurant did not have an Amaro - like Averna or Nonnino - to serve as a digestif - unforgivable for an otherwise great italian cuisine! A second niggle, which we did not experience as we arrived early, was the extremely restricted parking at the rear of the restaurant on its corner lot: space even further reduced by the presence of a tent apparently used for outside dining.More

This is a great place. The food here is worth the drive. Or as things are now, having somebody else drive and pick it up for you. I had a celebration a while back and as a gift they picked up a pepperoni pizza, antipasto...salad, and a Mediterranean salad. They were all excellent... Filled with flavor and a taste of Italy with each bite. It's a thin crust pizza with a great crunch and texture. The antipasto salad had a nice selection and variety of meat and and cheese. Even during this quarantine the food looked great in their take-home containers. I know this location has their own parking lot and easy access to the entry. They have a patio for outside dining. All the special protocols for food and service were being followed both inside and out. I hope to visit there soon with friends and enjoy a nice dinner with drinks.More

I drive by this restaurant every day on the way to and from work since it has opened in this new location. I have friends that come here religiously almost every Friday night for the late Happy Hour after 8:30 and implore upon me to...join them sometime. Finally, a couple of weeks ago, the stars aligned and I was in the right place at the right time and chose to stop in late on a Friday eventing. Wouldn't you know it, my friends did not show up that Friday evening, So, I took the opportunity to treat myself for the first time in a very long time. Their drink menu was nice and appropriate for an Italian/Mediterranean menu. They offer a top shelf Negroni and it did not disappoint (Suggestion - stock an Orange infused Vodka for a variety of cocktail options) The bartender whose name I forgot was very attentive without being overly so, knew his way around a bar and wine list, as well as the Restaurant's menu. Special that night was a Lamb Shank with risotto. Although traditionally any type of 'shank' entree is usually a Fall Season offering, this was wonderfully prepared, the meat fell off of the bone and the risotto was fantastic. Highly recommend, and when able, will be back again. Witheld 1 star because the Happy Hour Drink menu didn't include several style cocktails (including my order, which could have easily substituted a well brand) and the pricing was just a little bit high, by 10 to 15% in comparison to similar style restaurants in Pasadena. All in all I still greatly enjoyed myself and would encourage others to try it.More

Very good Italian food, attentive staff. Love the garlic bread and antipasto. Good wine selection. Not terribly expensive. Parking available but limited. Informal atmosphere, good bar.

This was our second visit to Avanti. The first time was good. The second time left us to continue our search for the ultimate Italian restaurant in Pasadena. Things began to be bad upon entrance. The owner is not welcoming at the front desk. Supremely...lacking in ebullience, he made us wait while he sat others who did not have reservations. The signature cocktail, which I remembered as being quite good, was overly bitter. The A team barman must have had the night off. The service throughout our time at the restaurant was inconsistent, due to the fact that we had no less than six, maybe seven servers. One brought us water. Another brought us oil and vinegar. A third brought us bread. One took our order, yet another delivered our order. I ordered pasta. The young lady who delivered the pasta did so without a pasta spoon, although spoons were plentiful in a bowl to the left of where she picked up the order. The food was very bad. My angel hair pasta with chicken was a total disaster. The pasta was overcooked and soggy. The diced tomatoes were out of a can. There were eight small round processed chicken nuggets that were tasteless, buried in the angel hair. The salmon that was ordered was not fresh. On another note, if one is to have the bistro type kitchen facing the diners, please tell the "chefs" to doff the baseball caps and don chef toques and white kerchiefs. At least then, the ambiance would be improved in an otherwise dismal dining experience.More

We used to always visit the old Avanti's cafe on lake before they closed. Last weekend we tried their new place which is not a pizza cafe but a fine dining restaurant. It is a lovely place with attentive staff and excellent food. They do...have gourmet pizzas on the menu and since we always loved Avanti's pizza we tried that. It was delicious with a thin crust. We also each had a salad which was delicious. They start you off with a basket of warm, home made rolls and breads. Most of the menu consists of entrees of meat, chicken or seafood and pastas and we could tell by those served around us that it was beautifully presented and prepared. Their prices are very moderate which allows for a beautiful evening at a reasonable price. We will look forward to returning and another wonderful meal. For those that love fine Italian dining this is the place.More

This is one of my go to places for lunch. I have a few tips if you want to try it out. Meh: Do not arrive exactly at the opening hour of 11:30. First the impressive door may not be open and if you get...in, nine times out of ten they are still mopping the floor. Piso Mojado is your greeting. Second don’t go on a Thursday (don’t ask}. The limited menu never changes. The food is consistent but average. Menu is limited considering the myriad variety of different pastas and sauces. Gnocchi? Forget it. I recommend Pasta Pesto, fresh flatbread and their good Rose. GOOD: Even before you walk in, note the impressive exterior architecture. Notice the amazing aluminum fascia and the brickwork on this three-sided building. A lovely building. Once inside, full bar on your left, and then don’t miss the impressive fresh flower display, upper left. On your immediate right is a gentleman making fresh bread. Looking up you see a expansive dining room with large chandeliers, sparkling glasses white linen and at the end of the triangle a cozy outdoor patio. Impressive. OUTSTANDING: The star in the dining room is your server Nidal if you are lucky. IMHO perhaps the best waiter in Pasadena. Courteous, efficient, charming. He was training wait staff once and asked them to look at the floor and he asked “What do you see?” “The floor they all answered”. “No” said Nidal, “It is a stage”. Bon appetite.More

Want to avoid the crowds, parking issues and wait times that come with a trip to Old Town Pasadena? Looking for a good Italian restaurant with reasonable prices in low key East Pasadena? Then try Avanti Bristro on Sierra Madre. This is a sister property...to Avanti on Lake but definitely in a much more relaxed atmosphere. Was here with a party of eight and everyone was pleased with their food, which included pizza, seafood pasta dishes and chicken based dishes. Nice interior, good service. A pleasant meal. One caution - We arrived at 5:00 and parked on the property however when we left the parking lot was full and not sure where you would park if this is the case when you arrive. Maybe down the street?More

I was disappointed. I wanted to have some good Italian pasta and ended up with ingredients that were thrown together. The chicken had no taste either. The sauce was weak too. 😑
