Thank you to the crew at Houston's Pasadena for a great evening meal at home. First of all let me just say Houston's in one of our regular dining out spots here in Pasadena ever since they opened up. Favorite dishes are, Ribs, Baked Potato,...French Dip, Chili and their Vegetarian Plate. We enjoy their steaks as well, but more often than not when we want a steak, there's nothing better than BBQ Grilled steak at home, but if you don't want to go through the fuss, Houston's is a close runner up. And of course you can't beat the service. But, this review is really about our meal the other day which we picked-up due to the Stay-At-Home order. It has been one of our highlights during this time of high anxiety. We ordered the ribs, mashed potatoes, broccoli and Cole slaw (their new version is really great). Love their ribs, so good. They happened to included a dessert that is somewhere between a brownie and fudge, really amazing. Something I don't think I've ever seen on the menu before. The food was great and hot, the curbside pickup easy, timely and friendly. It was on the day after several days of overcast and rain, when the sun came out and warmed up for a perfect outside dinner at home. I've enclosed a photo, please note however we embellished the side dishes a bit with our own invention of creamed corn"Off the cob Elote" (El Mexicano Crema sour cream, reduced whipping cream, Parmesan cheese, mayo and chopped Jalapeño. A Blue Cheese wedge salad, all washed down with a Vodka Martini and a bottle of Cabernet. Thanks again to the crew, you helped make the day very special.More

This place always struck me as kind of a wannabe upscale restaurant. It has the right atmosphere but just not the food to match. The clientele seem to think it is upscale intend to dress that way but I wasn't impressed. I would return to...take a client are some other occasion like thatMore

The food was so good. The service was great. I ordered a mojito and it tasted weird. No issue exchanging it for a mimosa. I would definitely go back. It’s just the parking lot that’s a nightmare.

The food was good a bit overpriced. Service was good. Felt a bit rushed. It is a good standard if you don’t mind the expense. My friends go there a lot

Houston's is great for lunch albeit busy and not inexpensive. It's a hip place where you can see them cooking. Pick a table under a light otherwise you won't be able to read the menu. The burgers are so big that you have a hard...time picking them up to eat and fit in your mouth. Decide whether to cut them up. They are known for their fresh meats. Dinners can be a bit pricey.More

Houstons atmosphere is so cool and inviting. And just smelling the wood fired grill as you walk in is mouthwatering! The grilled artichokes are not to be missed, so delicious! The ribs, seafood, and salads all delicious.

Nothing to write home about. Luke warm food. Ordered spinach and artichoke tip to start. Didn’t appear. Mains arrived, soggy fries ribs ok. Pork chops warm baked potato luke warm. Butter didn’t even melt it it. White wine arrived warm. Sent back and said they...would put in the freezer for later. Changed and had two beers instead. The bill arrived with no mention of desert being offered.More

This is a great place to dine and entertain visitors. Before I retired, I entertained clients here. Now that I've retired, I find it a great place to take family and relax.

You’d think paying almost $60 for 9 oz of rib eye would buy a delicious tender cut without much gristle . Not so any more at Houston’s (Pasadena). And perhaps the waiter would apologize? Not at all. Standard fare at what used to be a...first class restaurant.More

So incredibly sad to leave this review of a formerly favorite restaurant. I have been to this restaurant countless times over the last 30 years. It used to be the representation of the best kind of service and that is what made it special. Although...the food is still good (albethey smaller portions), sadly it is not nearly good enough to make up for the declining service in the last few years. With this last experience, we won't be back. We had reservations on a Friday night for four people for a very special occasion. Seated 1/2 hour late, but no big deal it was a busy night. In a nutshell, the following happened: We ordered cocktails, followed by appetizers, followed by main courses (expensive ones-not that it should matter), followed by dessert and coffee. The waitress was not particularly friendly and in the middle of our dessert deposited a folded paper check in the middle of the table. There was no- whenever you are ready- or that kind of a polite comment that normally comes with a bill. We continued eating our dessert and talking and apparently we had not paid fast enough attention to the bill because the waitress came back, and seeing we had not paid yet, picked up the paper bill, left and came back with the bill on a silver tray this time and again deposited it in the middle of the table without a word. This was bizarre for me on its own but we picked up the bill at that point and paid $400 cash. She came back and took it and not 5 minutes later, while we were finishing our coffee, the manager walked up and very unceremoniously said: "uh- we have a lot of people waiting for this table and I have to ask you to leave". We were all dumbfounded. Right after paying $400 and 1hour and 55 minutes after being seated we were asked to leave as if we were loitering! I mean, I get wanting to turn over tables fast but this was SO humiliating, inappropriate and incredibly offensive, especially at a supposedly upscale restaurant. This would NEVER happen at Flemmings, Ruth Chris or Roy's, or the vast majority of reputable restaurants for that matter. I called corporate because it was so upsetting to have ended our evening all feeling so badly and was told that they DO in fact have a 90-minute policy on busy nights. They also incidentally have a "we do not encourage children" policy and a "we can not accommodate parties of more than 6 policy. They have turned Houston's from a warm, welcoming and lovely restaurant experience into one where they seem to feel that patrons are lucky to have the opportunity to dine there IF they meet the requirements and rules. I was actually told that the rules are clearly stated on the website. I was truly shocked, disappointed and sad even at the fact that they really did nothing to try to retain a 30-year loyal customer. Be aware that if you choose to have a special occasion here you better speed through your evening or you might very well get kicked out, you might feel awful and pay a lot of money to feel that way the rest of your evening and beyond as we did.More
