“Eat well, live better” is the motto of chef Johannes Bacher, whose award-winning European cuisine has been satisfying discerning taste buds in downtown Palm Springs for more than two decades. Bacher lends a taste of his native Kössen — the small town in Tirol, Austria, where Bacher was raised — to dishes such as cheese spätzeln (housemade noodles in fontina and Gruyère cheeses) and his signature wiener schnitzel, which was featured in 1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die, a book listing the world’s best restaurants. The upscale yet relaxed dining experience pairs with a comprehensive wine list, featuring half-bottles as well as 3-ounce tasting pours, and trendy, Euro-inspired décor. “Simply the

After coming here for several years with our Canadian cousins, this year they they are all forced to stay home due to Covid 19. We are here for several days by ourselves. Trying new places for dinner, we found Johannes just down the street from...our hotel. So glad we chose it. Extraordinary food!!! I had Wiener Schnitzel, the traditional German way, she had their Salmon. The bread to start was amazing with a spread of artichoke, basil, olive oil, garbanzo beans. We ordered a J Pinot Gris 2017 perfect with both. And desert was the incredible Apple Strudel. Thin layer upon layer, and oh so tasty.More

We shared the beet salad with pistachios, grapefruit and feta, excellently paired and to die for taste. We ordered the salmon and jaeger schnitzel. Both were excellent and cooked to perfection. My husband raved about the salmon being the best he ever ate for 2...days! It is an upscale restaurant, but the food was beautifully plated and tasty. The schnitzel was not heavily breaded. the salmon was served on a generous portion of spinach with small rounded potatoes and sauce on the side. The schnitzel came with fingerling potatoes and I would definitely order it again. Best of all was the superb service we received from our waitress. You dinitely need to make reservations at least 1-2 weeks ahead to get a good time.More

I rarely give a Five, but this restaurant not only has excellent food but excellent service and hospitality. We were lucky to dine outside on a warm evening as the sun set while we looked at the mountains and sky change colors around us. Sazerac...cocktails were a great mix of flavors with a hint of absinthe while the fig martinis were even better! The wild mushroom soup was a bowl of creamy flavorful goodness and the Malaysian meatballs had some mild level of spice in the curry which had me dipping my bread in the leftover sauce. The shrimp cocktail also a pleasant surprise with a mild dressing on the dozen shrimp which also was worth lapping up! Mains included the veal schnitzel which was thin, tender and beautifully fried with a wonderful lemon caper sauce. I opted to swap the potatoes for spaetzle which was very tasty. The duck schnitzel also a welcome surprise which my wife loved.... duck breast pounded thin and prepared the usual way. And the roast duck too was crispy and delicious. The Apple strudel was the only minor fail but our chipotle chocolate dessert made us happy. Expensive? Yes, but probably the best meal and service we’ve experienced since annually visiting the Valley for over a decade.... can’t believe we missed out on a great dinner in past years but will make this our Go To place to look forward to visiting next year!More

It was my first time there and we got recommended it by our hotel and since Im Austrian I was curious to experience it. In the times of covid we were only able to pick up the christmas dinner. We took a 2 course meal...for 150$ for 2 people, included a 20% service charge for a take out meal. My boyfriend liked the soup but his chicken schnitzel was really average with 5 tiny potatoes and cucumber salad. Since I didnt want to eat meat I got recommended the thai curry but I didnt like it, so I was really looking forward to the apple strudel but to be honest I was very disappointed too and ended up not eating anything because it didnt taste like one at all. Overall it was very disappointing, average austrian and overpriced.More

We had an EXCELLENT 3-course Christmas dinner delivered which made our day in this crazy year! Filet mignon w/lobster tail was absolutely perfect, my husband's crispy duck was delicious, we saved the great shrimp cocktail for lunch and still have the desserts in the fridge....Amazing food, amazing service. Let's keep these wonderful restaurants alive! Can't wait to order our NYEve dinner for two next!More

We have been coming here annually when we visit Palm Springs since they first opened. Specialities range from their incredible puréed mushroom soup to the diet busting spaetzle with cheese and onion to a delicious Brussel sprout salad or Belgian Endive salad with blue cheese...to the wonderful shrimp cocktail in a silky mayonnaise and tomato sauce to numerous preparations of Wiener schnitzel. But our favorite of all is the crispy duck with red cabbage. Amazing! It comes with polenta but they will substitute spaetlzle if you prefer. You will be too full for dessert but you won’t regret it! A large and excellent wine list and very good cocktails complete the experience.More

Schnitzel is not my favorite but since it is a specialty of the house, I ordered the Jager, schnitzel with a mushroom sauce. It was absolutely melt in your mouth. My husband ordered another type with tomatoes and cheese which is also loved. The service...was excellent. I only have one comment. Our drinks were wonderful, a dirty martini and a sidecar. They were served promptly. However, our meal arrived just after our drinks which did not give us any time to enjoy them before our dinner. Just before we finished, servers seemed to hover over us, waiting to remove our plates. Seemed like they were rushing us. Regardless, we will be back because the meal was one of the best in Palm Springs.More

Typically I'm not a martini person. However, after hearing the fig martini the special for the day, I was curious to try. I'm glad I did. The quality of the food was excellent. The atmosphere was classy. The service excellent.

The food was somewhat uneven. Those of us who ordered specials fared better than the person who ordered the schnitzel, which was so-so (and huge). All in all it was a very expensive meal for what it was.

This restaurant is our favorite in the Palm Springs area. The food is excellent and the service surpasses any other ! The bartender Stephanie is one of the best we have ever met.
