First impressions are important. When we sat down, one of the very square, very black plates had several large chips out of it. The tables either side of were set and had no such issues. Then our first dish came out, the spicy tuna tostadas....This long plate, charcoal in color was also badly chipped. As for the tuna tostadas. Were they spicy? Yes. Was it served on tostadas? Yes. Was it tuna though? We honestly couldn’t tell. The meat had been chopped so fine that it was effectively a paste. Both my dining partner and I thought the color of the paste was odd. It looked more like the color of salmon than tuna. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was expecting diced tuna, maybe 1/4” or so? We also ordered a couple of different sushi rolls. These were at best “ok”. The fact they were on a (chipped) platter instead of a plastic box set them apart from food court sushi. The cocktails we had were decent and our server was great. The prices for some of the Japanese whiskey was akin to highway robbery. Plenty of young people here enjoying themselves though. Go figure.More

I've been twice and will make this a must-do on return trips. The food and service is impeccable. Staff is very knowledgeable about the menu.

Had to visit because of the hype (and difficulty getting in.) Unfortunately, I’m sorry we got in. First, the positive: great sake and whiskey options; Octopus carpaccio was excellent. Second, the negatives: Extremely over priced for the quality (I can name at least two places...in area to get the same quality for half the price); Guests, take-out orders AND all wait staff delivering food to outside diners go out the FRONT door - so if you are sitting near the front door like we were - you should be prepared to listen to the air curtain non-stop and flys and bugs flying around your table; Kitchen made one dish incorrectly and we waited two courses for it to be corrected; finally, the experience is average at above average pricing and an below average atmosphere. I am very careful about writing negative reviews coming out of Covid but the issues here had nothing to do with coming out of the pandemic. Visit if you feel you have to, but, consider your alternatives - there are plenty of them in Palm Springs.More

We have eaten sushi for 35 years and this was the most mediocre meal in years. Having had sushi flown in direct from the Tsukiji Market and having eaten at the Tsukiji Market, we know quality when we taste it.

Selected this restaurant as it was in the Top 10 for Trip Advisor. Made reservations 2 weeks ahead of time for a party of 7 so they knew we were coming. When we got there, there was zero parking available ( no designated spaces) behind...the restaurant and no option for Valet. It would have been nice to know that parking was going to be limited /and issue. Once there, we were told that they couldn't accommodate 7 inside so we would have to eat outside, which was fine but the table was right next to a large party seated inside the "cargo box" type area which made the sound resonate, making it difficult to hear each other speak. The manager did allow us to move a bit further away from that table which we were very appreciative. The menu seemed to be rather disjointed in the sense that you had a few rolls and some sashimi and then the rest was just specials. The menu indicated that it is served "Family Style" which was not communicated by our waiter ( which by the way our Waiter was FANTASTIC ) which created confusion and honestly it was simply brought out piece meal and not family style- there was not a large platter with the orders on it ( family style) so many people were done before others even got their dinner. The braised octopus was rubbery and the black mussels were not ideal with minimum broth and sub par quality on the seafood. The waiter did manage to get us a lollipop roll even though he had indicated they were out of it but he went the extra mile to give us one. The Mochi Cheesecake had Oreo cookie crumbs on it ( not mentioned in the description) which we had to pass on due to an allergy to chocolate. All in all I believe the hassle of just parking and getting seated on top of the sub par food was NOT worth the $500 price tag. Will not go back / recommend when in Palm SpringsMore

Very overrated. We eat quite a bit of sushi, and I would equate this to sushi you can buy at any grocery store. It’s grossly overpriced - roughly double what we typically pay at a far superior restaurant we frequent. Also, we were told our...takeout order would be ready in 60 minutes, and it was over two hours with zero concern by the staff for the delay. Not worth the time or money.More

We were seated outside with heaters. The facade of the building is misleading - it looks small from the road but on the side of the building there is a very large outdoor dining area. The restaurant is great for kids, families, and couples of...all ages. We ordered 4 sushi dishes with only edamame as the appetizer to split among 4 people. After 3 sushis, we were all stuffed full and had to cancel the 4th sushi dish - that's how filling the sushis are! The cocktails were only ok (which is why my rating is 4/5 instead of 5/5). Service was good. Will definitely be returning here.More

We didn't try the whiskey, but the sushi at this North Palm Springs eatery could not have been better. Its reputation in the valley was not an exaggeration! Our group had the combination Venue Roll, spicy tuna hand roll, the Lollipop cucumber (rice free), the...seaweed salad, and the tataki cooked tuna. All were superb. We sat outdoors and listened to the deejay spin hip tunes. We had a nice bottle of Australian sauvignon blanc. Altogether, a relaxing and superb dinner evening.More

We had a really enjoyable meal here and won't hesitate to return. First off, they have an extensive whiskey list as well as a nice selection of cocktails. We ordered one of the omakase cocktails and what the mixologist created was sublime. Definitely worth trying,...such fun. The sushi was all good, especially the yellow tail which I normally find disappointing. Our 4-year-old enjoyed her salmon sashimi but did not like the steamed rice she asked for, ha! The tuna tostada, the mussels, and the experiment roll were the standouts for us, and we will for sure order again next time. Finally, our waitress was amazing. She was incredibly patient with our daughter and was attentive without being overbearing whenever we needed her. We will be back!More

Forget about being seated here on time even with reservations. We still had to wait around 20 minutes on the sidewalk even though we had one. And make sure you don't bump into the waiters bringing out food thru the one and only main entrance...to serve outdoor patrons. Sushi is all about simplicity and freshness of the fish. That's the art of making sushi. It's not supposed to be slathered with all these mayo and other goopy stuff. If you love authentic sushi, this place is a hard pass.More

I'm really sick of this and won't return here unless to take food home The music in the outdoor area was so loud we had to shout at each other. Why do people come in groups, either large or small? They want to talk while...they eat. If you drown out dinner with obnoxious "music', everyone has to shout louder than the next table to be heard. It's really awful. Now the waitstaff...although nice, we had to ask FOUR DIFFERENT men to pull their masks over their noses. You are a restaurant. You want people to come to dine even during this pandemic. When we oblige because we like the food, you can return the favor by insisting to your employees to keep their faces covered. The person outside seating people had his mask below his nose, as did three other waiters...all men. FIX THIS!More

The speciality rolls were exceptional, We had the Sandfish roll along with our usual range of nigri; tuna, yellowfin, salmon. We also sampled the toro tuna; excellent. Service was attentive. If a sushi diner is in your plans the Sandfish is your spot.

We looked for a place to eat near our hotel and stumbled on Sandfish Sushi & Whiskey and decided to give it a try. I have to say we were happy we did. I have been to many sushi places and many times they are...very similar. Here at Sandfish I sampled several dishes that were new to me and great tasting. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and happy to help us select the food. It is also a dog friendly place.More

When one roll came out and sat for 20 minutes, we wanted to wait for all of us to be served before eating. Shawn the manager came over and said "your server was supposed to tell you this is family style..." One of the first...rules in any business is to not throw your coworkers under the bus. The server was not happy. When my daughter saw the "manager" she was surprised because she'd been watching the man dart to the corner of the block every 10 minutes to smoke his vape pen with the staff. When the food still didn't come 15 min later, I finally walked over to the street corner, where they were all smoking pot. I was shocked by the unprofessionalism, and he exclaimed he had a "waiver" to allow him to smoke at work. The server was so happy I had confronted Shawn, because he and the other servers have watched him "for months" doing nothing and running off for his smoke breaks every ten minutes. They ultimately over charged my credit card, and when I wrote the owners, no response. Clearly targeting tourists and no repeat customers.More
