It started when the hostess looked at me and barked, "Reservation?" Not, "Hi, welcome, do you have a reservation?" Just, "Reservation?" in a harsh tone. BTW, it was a few minutes after 5:00 p.m. Then she led me past the outdoor tables where guests were...seated back to back against guests at the next table. If staying six feet away from other diners matters to you, stop here. It isn't going to happen, regardless of what the Governor says. I mentioned the social distancing to the hostess. She screamed at me, "You want social distancing? Here." And she started dragging a two-top down the sidewalk yards away from anyone. I don't know what the other diners thought, but I felt abused. So I quietly turned around and walked back to my car. I'm home now, and I'm still shaking from the encounter. Even though this restaurant is close to my home, I only eat there about once a year — when the craving for sweet and sour red cabbage hits. This was my first visit in a couple of years. I remember taking a friend from out of town there for a late lunch. The food was OK, but heavy and not very healthy feeling. I remember thinking it really wasn't a good choice. I was right.More

Could not believe how delicious this place was! Must admit I wasn’t excited when friends told us that we would be going to a German restaurant for dinner. Wow, so glad we did! This food is incredible! I got the chicken kabob with ripped potatoes....My husband had the schnitzel and he loved it! The desserts were great. Loved the strudel. Will return.More

First of all the atmosphere is more like a sports bar than a German restaurant. The two of us were seated right next to a table of six, loud talking, obnoxious diners. On the other side of us were another table of six, we could...have joined them they were so close. The prices are high and servings are small. Our bill came to over $65.00 for two and we shared a beer. My husband had the veal and it was so small, he ordered another piece for $8.00. He send the horrible dry spaetzle back and got the potatoes instead. When the bill came they had charged him for the potatoes. They put red cabbage and sourkraut on the plate, it is about of teaspoon of each, more like a garnish. we had to flag the server down several times. She did not return to ask us how the meal was. The veal was actually Ok, but a small serving. When we were leaving the owner was holding the door for about twenty diners that must have been going into a back room to dine. This place is small, crowded and not worth going to. Way to many great places to dine at instead in Palm Desert!More

Far from traditional German cuisine. The cabbage soup tasted more like a bad chicken tortilla soup. The spaetzle was dry and overcooked to the point of being burnt. The chicken schnitzel was BLAND. The only people who enjoyed their meals got the sausage platter and...ripped potatoes, which seem to be the only decent things on the menu. Service was good.More

How to convey how underwhelmed and disappointed by this restaurant we were. First... Reservation for 5:00 meal finally served at 6:45. Second.... Food was generally mediocre with the exception of the Pretzel, which thank God arrived in the first hour or we all would have...eaten our arms off. Some of our party received slightly warm not hot food Third... during our hour and half wait we had to flag down and remind wait staff/bus boys about drink orders, refilling water, etc. Service was slow would be an understatement. Fourth... The venue is very noisy so be prepared to shout at each* other. Too be fair regarding the service, one of the owners said they were short staffed that night. It would have been helpful to say that when we arrived instead of almost 2 hours in. I would not recommend this place unless you what a noisy environment with mediocre German food. Maybe try the Schnitzelhaus down the way on Country Club.More

Found this hidden gem and tried it based on the reviews. It didn't disappoint. Goulash fries awesome. Tried a sampler including cabbage roll, sausage, and schnitzel chicken. With the sides this is enough for 2 or 3 people. The jeagerschitzel is something I will crave...going forward. The service was so helpful. Will definitely add this to the must eat list when visiting Palm Desert. Thank you to all the staff that served us.More

We always look for a good German Restaurant while on vacation. We were not disappointed. The food and deserts were outstanding. There was four of us and we tried several dishes, pretzel, cucumber salad, cabbage rolls, Jagerschnitzel, Schnitzel a la Holstein, Alps White Cream Cake...and Apple Strudel. Everything was so flavorful. We were served by the owner's daughter who also does the cooking along with her mother and sister. In addition to their hospitality and service, the daughter brought us a taste of their Goulash which was unbelievable. We will definitely have that when we return next year. Definitely try the Alps White Cream Cake for desert. A wonderful ending to a wonderful dinner.More

We had cabbage rolls, jagerschnitzel, sausage plate, cabbage soup, giant pretzels, with spaetzle, sauerkraut and potatoes - all delicious. The kids had buttered noodles.
