the pasta is good, the specials sometimes great, the staff are super friendly and the wine list is adequate

My husband and I have been infrequent customers of La Piazza over the years and the food has always been very good. We have been in a few times recently and the food continues to be very good, especially the wood-fired pizzas and the fresh...seafood offerings. The new owner is very friendly and greets you with a warm smile. He is active with guests and committed to a great customer experience. If you are looking for an authentic Italian restaurant in the east bay, we highly recommend La PiazzaMore

My wife and I have been coming to this restaurant for many years and love the location and ambiance. Situated across the street from the Orinda theatre, La Piazza is the perfect place to stop for a delicious meal before a movie. Coming back from...the city, we decided to stop for an early dinner at 6:00 on the way home. The restaurant was about 80% full and we were seated immediately. But then everything started moving in slow motion - 20 minutes to take our order, 20+ minutes for food to arrive, 2 requests for wine, 20 minutes to bring the bill, etc, etc - the service was friendly but glacially slow. What we thought would be a 1 hour stop, stretched well over an hour and half and we were ignored for most of the dinner. The food was typically excellent - exceptionally tender veal with an amazing sauce and well-prepared pasta w/bolognese sauce. With good bread and a decent wine, the food fully met our expectations. But seriously flawed service marred an otherwise wonderful dinner.More

Small Italian restaurant in Orinda. Decent food, moderate price. Mediocre service, had to ask multiple times for ice tea refills. Waitress distracted.

Yes the food is still pretty good, and it's in a good location, across from the theater. The food used to be very good and dependable. Not the case this time, though. The salad (the basic salad was just that, a bowl of lettuce only)...and the dressing (awful) was the low point of our meal, if you do not count the wait staff. The entrees were good; not stellar, but good. The waiter we had did not tell us about the specials, so we missed out on ordering what we thought we might had have wanted more; we did say something to the waiter after we read the board, but the food was up already so no change was possible, unless I lied and said I did not like the entree I originally ordered, or made some other fuss. We just weren't into all that drama. Would I go back? Yes, but I should remember that this is not a place where you can let the waiter drive; you have to be in charge of everything, so that makes for a less relaxing dining experience.More

The food is good; not too expensive. It has pizza, pasta, Italian dishes and it's all good. Check your bill as there have been a few errors on ours.

This place was hopping--even at 5:30! Good selection of pasta and pizza, nice wine list. Good portions--good food.

A decent Italian food in Orinda, good service and location across from the theater. We had sole and veal piccata, they use the same sauce for both. The sauce was heavy, loaded with cream. A fine restaurant would make a light savory piccata sauce without...cream.. The salads are very small. I would say a bit pricey for average food. They do have a wood fired oven, the pizzas may be good. Waiters are polite and respond quickly.More

After a movie at the Orinda, the four of us had an excellent meal and wine at La Piazza. Mussels and rigatone highlighted our meal. Chianti Classico a great wine addition.

When I go out for Italian I don't usually order pasta. At La Piazza I sat at the bar and watched the chefs prepare the meals. It was to tempting not to order the pasta. We were all very pleased. The Rigatoni with sausage was...our favorite.More
