Hello Betty will be one of countless “near the beach” restaurants that I typically forget a day after dining. Nothing to complain about, friendly staff, good beer selection, average menu, and most importantly the food was VERy average. Nothing different then you would get from a chain near any each (though sadly not a chain ...to my knowledge). I’d describe it as bar food. Not good. Not bad. Not memorable. Sadly this restaurant was rated in the top ten by Trip Advisor for Oceanside and if this is the case the restraint scene in ocean side had along way to go. Based in the rating I would give it a two ir one star but objectively it is just average. Also sad is the monstrosity of a development built directly across from, and completely obstructing what was once a likely nice ocean view. I get the sense that this restaurant built its reputation based on location and ambience, particularly beautiful views of the oceans¿ All of those are all gone now. An absolutely massive hotel or condo development has gone up between Hello Betty and the Ocean obliterating any views. The patio and roof top basically look across the street at a huge development. Not bad, not good, and I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again.

Our server was extremely helpful narrowing down our food choices (everything on the menu looked good). Everything we tried from cocktails, appetizers, and entrees were all delicious. Extremely reasonably priced as well.

We chose Betty’s based on the reviews, menu and location and stopped by on a Monday about 5 o’clock. No problem getting seats at the bar and being promptly greeted by the bar staff. Since we were driving another couple of hours we decided to skip alcohol and have Arnold Palmers instead. The bartender didn’t bat an eyelash and our drinks were served ASAP. We ordered clam chowder and a wedge salad, both of which were served promptly and with a friendly attitude. So far, Betty’s would have earned an above average review but then we ate the food! It was average at best. The proportion of clams to potatoes was far below the $8 each that was charged and the soup base certainly tasted like it Was from a “potatoy” mix not from scratch. The wedge salad was even more disappointing. Half a head of iceberg lettuce with barley enough bacon or tomato to even get noticed. Further the bacon was the ground up stuff you buy in bulk, not freshly grilled and the tomatoes were also the pre-chopped kind with no flavor. In summary a “2” for the food and “4” for the staff equaling an average “3”. For $42 including tip Betty’s overpriced and underdelivered.

The construction across the street blocks the view of the ocean and it is extremely noisy. Service was decent. The real disappointment was the fish in the three mains were overcooked. This was a surprise for a seafood restaurant. We expected more from the restaurant.

A nice location, good food, freindly and helpful staff. After my last visit I knew I'd be back... and they were as good (or better) that the first time. The fish is fresh and well prepared (with BIG portions). Good fries are a plus, better coleslaw the bonus. Basic meals are mid-expensive but a good value. Add-ons are a bit "steep", but the portions large and the qaulity high. Everything I've tried here was well above average. Yup, I'll go back (even with stiff competition).

Cute establishment with tasty food! We loved all the different taco options available and the option to make the taco a burrito or a bowl. We had the salmon sliders, avocado taco, potato & elote taco, smoked fish taco, carne asada taco, couple of salads, cocktails and a carne asada bowl. The atmosphere was very California beach vibe and it was clean and very cool. Service was friendly, quick and food was delicious. My husband ordered a third taco for himself and he forgot to say no radish and was impressed the server remembered that for him. Indoor and outdoor seating available and there’s even a rooftop patio. I will definitely be back the next time we’re in Oceanside. I highly recommend!

This is a cute place near the beach and within walking distance of where we were staying.
We had fish and chips, Baja fish tacos, smoked fish taco and fried cod taco.
The fish and chips portion was large and came with a ton of fries. The fish tacos were fresh and delicious, with the smoked fish taco being the overall favorite!

Near the beach, but not on it. So no views. Sort of sports bar like. But real interesting menu. Especially the appetizers like mussels, oysters, shrimp, salsa, tuna. Nice funky atmosphere and good service. We had mahi mahi and linguine for the main. if you like, there's an array of taco choices. I even went for desert! Salads are grand, too. The bar offers lots of beer choices including several local. Fewer wines, but this is really a beach beer spot bar.

We stayed at a hotel across the street and walked over here for dinner. My husband had the fish and chips and they were delicious and I had a taco and Pozole soup which was fantastic. We had chips and salsa as an appetizer and they bring out a few different types of salsa that were all great. The staff was very nice and checked up on us regularly to always make sure our drinks were filled. I highly recommend trying this place out :)

My sister, niece and I had lunch at Hello Betty and we were pleasantly surprised. My sister and I had the fish and chips while my niece opted for a tuna melt sandwich/fries. The food was fresh and so yummy! Service was great. Prices were reasonable. Great location. Everyone practiced social distancing and wearing masks. If you are in the area and are craving seafood, I would suggest you go to Hello Betty - you won't be disappointed.

We were traveling for sports with a big group. The restaurant did not take reservations but was able to get a great spot in the back with football on the tv right over our table and server who worked her tail off. The menu isn’t big, but the fried avocado taco was delish! Overall, great place for a group, the hostess and server were incredibly accommodating and are the main reason for the review! It just goes to show you, hire the right people, and people will be happy!

No outside seating offered to us, super strict masks rules and they let you know all about it. Poor service probably the worst service we have ever had at a restaurant, we will protect the server due to we can chalk this up as maybe a bad day or a late night the evening before. News Flash, we have been dealing with COVID for 8 months, I don’t need to be reminded that a mask must be worn while walking to our table or the restroom, I don’t need to be told to make sure I wash my hands after using the restroom, I think this restaurant is way over the top with policing of the virus. I have never felt more belittled by management in my life. I will never be coming back to Hello Betty’s again. Good Luck, shame cause I love the clam chowder.

Went on Friday evening at 7pm. Shown to table very promptly so no complaint about that. Then waited 10 mins for a waiter to come to our table. We ordered a bottle of wine. 15 mins later not even a glass of water put on the table so we managed to catch the attention of another waiter to ask about our wine. He then got our waiter who apologised for the delay which he said was because they had run out of wine glasses!! So 25 mins since entering no water, food order not taken and no wine due to lack of glasses. Won’t be going back.

Enjoyed the fresh catch rockfish as well as salsa and guack. The restaurant is close to the pier so it is easy to walk to the ocean after a meal. You can sit inside, outside or on the second floor patio.

Lobster taco , grilled shrimp taco and fried cod taco - The "homemade" corn tortillas were soggy and tough - lobster was 2 small pieces about a teaspoon each, - the shrimp was tasteless and did not look grilled, the fried cod was very good but the sauce on all 3 was mayonaisy, no spice and no flavor. I picked the seafood out and left the rest for the garbage. The beer was good and cold, so go for a drink and walk up the street for dinner.
