I have been a customer here since I was a child 40+ years. The original owners (George) and his family ran a prestigious bakery, my family always received fresh pastries, Hot Bread on Sunday mornings, and not to mention the Moist Birthday cakes we would...order for our events. Since the new ownership my purchases at the bakery have all been found to be stale and non fresh pastries which we usually don't know until we get home to try the pastries. My recent final visit to this bakery was for my Granddaughters 1st Birthday January 2022, I ordered and paid for 200 cupcakes. Set them up at the party (3) flavors and when guest tried them about (6) persons each one spit them out and said they tasted stale and hard. I was disappointed and immediately contacted the bakery the owner told me I can have a refund but he wanted me to return what was left? I did so even though I had to leave the party. Not sure what he was going to do with them maybe resale. The Bakery since new ownership products have been poor in taste, not fresh, nor are they baked fresh daily. The restauraunt on the other hand continues to provide great tasting, Fresh Food!More

Went there for the first time on Sunday February 13th 2022 to meet a bunch of bike riding friends. What a beautiful selection of baked goods and some you'd see in Mexico. We all sat outside and I had the small bowl of Menudo along...with nice flour tortillas. It was good. Then I had a nice pineapple small like cupcake which was very good! Excellent service from the young girl who waited on us. Would go again!! Nice place!!More

Right now I am only visiting the bakery portion for carry out. Best bakery items around and always fresh and delicious. My granddaughter is always on the lookout for a new cookie to try! Have tables setup outside right now but we are looking forward...to sitting down and eating breakfast there again soon.More

First time here. Had various dishes and all were great! Pretty large portions. Table salsa had great flavor. Service was quick and very polite, friendly. The bakery part is outstanding. Breads, pastries, cookies, more. What we bought was delicious. This place is our new place...for Mexican food and bakery goods. Will return soon and often.More

San Luis Rey restaurant is a little gem; tucked away from the main street around the corner from the Mission San Luis Rey. We had stopped in to pick up some pastries for a family celabration, the aroma of the baked goods, along with the...colorful/fun vibe of the bakery just made you feel joyful. We returned the next day for dinner, the childrens menus/dinner were just right for the kids, tacos and quesadillas, of course they enjoyed the chips and salsa. Our server made hot chocolate for the children. Chile relano plate with rice and beans is a generous portion with a very tasty/tangy sauce. Chicken enchilada plate was delicious, again generous portion. The next time I am in the area, I will certainly stop in.More

First time visit to order a birthday cake. What a surprise a full bakery and everything looked delicious. A young man was very helpful. The cake was delicious. On the opposite side is a restaurant that we're looking forward to try and stop in for...coffee and pastry, too. Highly recommend -- near the San Luis Rey Mission.More

Some of the best port tamales and guacamole in the area. Wonderful stop when travelling to San Diego. The bakery is incredible. Highly recommend cheese pockets and pumpkin empanadas. Well worth the calorie splurge. Friendly, attentive staff. Super casual and fun.

Enjoyed a lovely brunch with my 2 adult children. I chose from breakfast menu, kids chose from lunch menu. Great service and generous portions. Then we went to bakery side and had a difficult time choosing from all their beautiful pastries. But narrowed it down...to 3 to take to go. We will go again Can't believe it took us so long to find out about this gem near our home in Oceanside.More

The food is Mexican and kinda by the book. Where this place shines, however, is in their extensive bakery with all kinds of delightful pastries. A nice tip: have lunch and then browse their pastries for a great desert.

Great little place with great service! My husband and I tried this restaurant this past weekend, and were so pleasantly surprise. The waitress was so attentive, and friendly. The breakfast was fabulous (we had the machaca, and the carne asada/eggs). We also went into the...bakery and got some items to take home - definitely worth it! I absolutely will be back.More

What a unique place. Homemade Mexican food and bakery items galore. We never would have known about it except for the sign spinner we saw one weekend. Great service great prices. Can't wait to try the chilaquiles!

I love unique places to eat/experience. I found this place (which would be hard to find) when I dropped my car off for service. I needed to wait for the service to be completed and the San Luis Rey Bakery was/is the only spot to...wait. To my surprise, this has become a happy spot and a treat for me. I always wait for my car service as I like to have breakfast here. It is a mom and pop style restaurant (and bakery). They have a really friendly and efficient staff. No frills, but authentic. It has a fun environment/atmosphere with Mexican Music playing, brights colors fill the room and you have the smell of their freshly baked goods playing with your senses. I love the Machaca, they have many breakfast options and even serve lunch and dinner. Their bakery has a full spectrum of options and they are delicious. This is a great place for family, business meetings or just for fun. It seems like it is a locals spot, if you have the chance to visit, I think it is worth it. It is priced right-fair and reasonable. The bakery items are a steal.More
