My wife and eat here all the time - I just got around to writing. A review. Anniversaries. New Year's Eve. Birthdays. Whenever we can get a babysitter last-minute. Our favorite restaurant in the Bay Area - and certainly in Oakland. Start with a recommended cheese plate, try a beer/wine/cocktail that you've never heard of before, and take the journey.

It was very noisy due to a birthday party but it can happen any where. Service was slow and the watress forgot a lot of things, like water, bread, etc. You could tell from these details that they did not like their job. Food was ok, not bad, but the check was beyond imagination. They have a long way to... More

My friend and I had a really nice meal at A Cote. We loved sitting in the outside patio at the back of the restaurant. It was shaded, beautiful and relaxing. All the food we had was really good. We ordered a variety of the small plates and shared an entree. They have a good selection of unusual wines and... More

This is a place in our neighborhood where we come back all the time. The food quality and taste has been consistently good. The decor is mediterranean and ambience warm and romantic. Servers are knowledgable and friendly.

Surprised at how much I liked A'Cote. It's very dimly lit (too kuch so in fact) and at first appears a bit trendy and little too hipster with the dim lighting and crowd, but boy were we surprised. Sat at the bar. Bartender was awesome she was super helpful, very knowledgeable about their cocktails, wines and food. In fact, she... More

I went to this restaurant on the lower end of College based on a recommendation and was more than pleasantly surprised. I have so many nice things to say about this restaurant. There are both interior and patio dining (in back) areas to eat. Inside is where we chose because a U-shaped booth was available. This is not one of... More

Ate at A Cote for the first time yesterday. The patio seating feels like Morrocco. Small plates to share for four included: lamb tongue terrine (sounds wired, but good), mussels and pommes frites (have to get this), grilled quail (good), asparagus flatbread (ok), and dessert, panna cotta (good) and chocolate ice cream dish (forget the name) fabulous! Amazing cocktails, wine... More

An attempt to replicate a French dining experience but with a California slant. The food was good but the service slow or casual depending on how you look at it. The lighting was non existent. We had to get additional candles from other tables to be able to see the menu. The atmosphere (except for the lighting) was pleasant, not... More

We started off with perfectly prepared octopus served in a salad with potatoes, carrots and fennel. Then on to the fabulous wood oven baked mussels served in their special Pernod/wine/cream sauce with dipping bread on the side. These may be the best we've ever had. The flat iron steak was tasty as were the plentiful pommes frites. Over the course... More

A few friends and I had dinner at A Cote last Friday night. The place was crowded and noisy- not unexpected on a Friday night in downtown Oakland. Our waitress was very pleasant and very helpful about menu items. We needed to use the light from a cell phone to read the menu. We ordered a variety of small plates... More
