This place....so yummy. And this owner doesn't stop! Consistent, on it, delicious, friendly, fresh. I can always count on it. For us regulars, you might start throwing in some new specials, there's got to be more national dishes to enjoy.

A friend recommended Rio California, and it was very nice! It is a Brazilian restaurant, located in Preservation Square in Oakland. It actually in one of the old Victorian houses. It's a small place, but the food was delicious! The staff were very friendly and helpful. They have an outdoor seating area that was very nice. I'd definitely recommend it!!!

This gem of a restaurant is located in Downtown Oakland's preservation park area. They have tables inside and on the patio. The jerk chicken is my go-to dish. Perfectly seasoned, add extra hot sauce if you want it spicy. They also have several sandwiches, empanadas, and at least half a dozen Brazilian specials every day. Pls. note, their actual opening... Nested inside the Preservation Park area of downtown Oakland, sits this nice, small Brazilian eatery. Great for lunches or a quick bite – hours are limited. I had the jerk chicken with rice and salad. It was a huge plate for a very good price. I love finding places like this in just about any town I visit. To me,... More

I ordered the Coxinha (Chicken Croquette) plate..it comes with a salad with a yummy cilantro cream dressing. $9.95. You get 3 plum size croquettes...deep fried to a crusty golden brown. Crack the shell and you are rewarded with shredded chicken and a bit of corn surrounded by potato. Mouth is watering just thinking about it again. My friend James ordered... More

This restaurant is on the second floor of one of the several restored Victorians that make up this exclusive, upscale neighborhood. The great food is priced below what dishes of this quality would sell for elsewhere. Only tenants can park in Preservation Park proper--don't set yourself up for being towed--but we found reasonable street parking right outside the fence surrounding... More

Tucked away near Old Oakland, is Preservation Park/First Unitarian Church. While First Church has been there forever, the old victorians in Preservation Park were moved there many years ago, and lovingly restored and preserved. Most are occupied by non-profits, and you can knock on the doors and wander around. Niles Hall, where weddings and conferences are held, is usually open,... More

Rio California is one of those I consider a step above the average. I first tried looking for a local place for empanadas. I went looking for it mistakenly at the nearby City Center area. After checking the address again, I found this small isolated area referred to Preservation Park, filled with old restored Victorian buildings from that era. Rio... More
