We ate dinner here with friends and were pleased with everything. We were glad we had reservations as the place filled up while we ate. We split some excellent small plates as starters. I tried the rabbit cassoulet, a clever modification of a classic French dish. My companions all tried potato gnocchi with seasonal vegetables. When my wife offered a... More

This is a white tablecloth restaurant on 19th in a happening part of Oakland, across from the Fox. We had a set of appetizers with great quality and fresh ingredients. I started with a Jerusalem artichoke soup and Dungeness crab cakes. Wife had a fresh salad and shrimps with a nice mix of citris and avocado. Really tasty. Also interesting... More

Lovely high-ceiling, art deco, ornate dining area. Intimate setting candle-lit tables. Visit the 40's and 50's and a throw-back to that era. House savignon blanc, $12.00 was good. Negroni, $10.00 was fine. Dinner hamburger, $16.00, served with weak fries on a store-bought bun was average. Buttermilk fried chicken was mostly chicken-skin and coating, Could find much chicken under the camouflage.... More

Where to start? The delicious, retro decor can't be beat. Come on a busy night, which is every night, and wait for your table while sitting at Fauna, their joined bar next door. Cocktails are transcendent. Once back at Flora, sit at either a table or their fancy bar, and star in your own black-and-white movie. Seriously, whomever did their... More

We've been meaning to try this spot for a while, so I chose it for my birthday dinner. The food was exceptional - each person was happy with their choice. Mine, pork shoulder confit, was so tender, it didn't need a knife. Also, the artichoke soup was the best. Although we didn't specify it was a birthday dinner, they gave... More

A group of 6 ate dinner here last night. I called and told the restaurant we were celebrating a birthday and they had personalized 'Happy Birthday' signs on the table when we got there and also gave the BD boy a complementary dessert. Nice touch. I thought my dish (a steak) was cooked perfectly and was tender and delicious. Everyone... More

Went with locals and was very impressed. Very retro cool place, a little noisy, but still fun. Great cocktails and excellent heirloom salad and pork shoulder - other entrees look just as good.

Flora is one of those places that keeps showing up not only on Oakland's "must go to" places, but on everyone's "Top Five". Five stars are for places that should be on your short list if or if this is highly recommended by friends. Service is always good and consistent here. Servers are attentive and the food was served quickly.... More

After trying for many years to make my Sunday schedule work for brunch at Flora--upon recommendation from many reviews and close friends, I finally made it in to the gorgeous dining room a couple weeks ago. We didn't make a reservation, but at almost 2 PM we didn't mind waiting a while. The hostess greeted us with and up and... More
