We were not sure about the suggestion to try this restaurant, but were pleasantly surprised. The menu and decor are fairly traditional, and we thought the food would be traditional and ordinary. Not at all! The mushroom appetizer was perfect. My pasta with seafood was one of the specials of the day and was just delicious. My husband enjoyed his... More

This was our second diner at Il Barone Ristorante and it was as excellent as the first. The restaurant is a quiet, attractive, moderately small but high quality restaurant. Highly recommended for a quiet Italian dinner.

Impressive hidden Italian fine-dining gem tucked about a half-runway south of John Wayne Airport: il Barone, Chef Franco Barone and his wife Donatello's fulfilled dream, now six years of refining the warm reception and cozy atmosphere, and, more critically, the Northern Italian (Milanese originated, and Southern California restaurant, including Antonello's refined) cuisine. From Donatello's welcoming reception at the front counter,... More

This is a quiet, civilized place with old world, friendly service. I always order the daily specials that are carefully prepared and presented. Franco and Donatella are a great team. A great place to take special clients for a business lunch.

We were actually looking to have dinner at a restaurant next door but when we reached it we found that place was only open until 3 PM and it was closer to 6. We were just too exhausted to get back in the car and go to another place nearby so we looked at the other shops in that shopping... More

Have been going to this restaurant since it opened and have never had a bad meal. The veal is a highlight, but all the food is among the best you can find in Newport Beach or anywhere else. Often have specials limited to one or two weeks. Great choice for special occasions, as well as anytime you want great Italian... More

Had Friday (March 18) lunch with a friend. We had delicious food and attentive service. Even as they got crowded, they did not hurry us and allowed us to enjoy food and conversation. I had the Ravioli della Domenica for $19 and my friend had the Salmon special which, I believe was $24. Assorted breads are offered (not left on... More

We took a break from our conference and found this terrific restaurant for dinner with friends. Knowing we love Italy, our friends teased us, saying that we would be transported there that night: we were! To be brief: Food = excellent Service = excellent Ambiance = excellent A great choice!!

You will feel very welcome as you walk through the door. Wonderful warm atmosphere. The special are always intriguing and delicious. The burrata tomato salad was the perfect starter. The Vongale was a palate pleaser. Interesting wine list. Local favorite.

Low quality food and bad service. We felt like the server didn't care about us; after all we ordered what he suggested, "the specials"..... he introduced it as best food in house and did turned to a bad expensive dinner. Fish was overcooked, the "fresh" pasta was cold and undercooked, the steak was tough and cold. Good wine list and... More

We saw this place on Yelp and thought we would try yesterday. It is new but the chef was the lead chef at Antonello's, our favorite restaurant in Orange County. We were NOT disappointed! Carpaccio di Cinghiale, which was excellent. We also had the Trofie al Ragu' di Coniglio which is pasta with rabbit ragu. The pasta was homemade and the ragu was different but really flavorful. We never would have thought of rabbit as an entree, but here we would order it again!
