A place for locals and tourists. Richard Nixon once called to get a reservation and was told he would have to wait in line like everyone else. And, he did History aside, excellent food (best chowder around) and the staff is so experienced it is unbelievable. We will be back often.

We visited this restaurant based on reviews but were disappointed. The food was just okay, and over priced for what you got. Best part was the potatoes.Service was just ok, Cool vintage atmosphere. Would not go back.

I absolutely love this restaurant! I have been coming here since I was a young child. Everytime I am in the area I go there! I love the disposable dishes!! Great food. The best clam chowder!!

Really fresh fish, no fuss, served on paper plates, casual, same staff since it opened. I like the fish kabob, coleslaw and Romanesque potatoes. Order the freshly baked bread. Everyone from Newport-Costa Mesa has been here. Their house chowder is a red. Wine by the glass around $5. Free taffy & postcards. Great atmosphere. Can have long lost lines at... More

We thought that because this restaurant has been in business a long time it would me amazing. Wrong. The service wasn't great. The staff was standing right behind me talking about how much they hate their supervisor. Uhh. Professional right!? The food was WAY over priced for what you got. And I got the pleasure of eating my $25 meal... More

Im a huge food critic. Very picky about food freshness, flavor and how its prepared. Freshness a 3 out of 5 seafood should not have much of a scent when its fresh Flavor a 1 out of 5 WAY over powered on the seasonings. The clam chowder tasted more like minestrone soup with no clam flavor. And shrimp was completely... More

Crab Cooker the original one has been around forever located in an Old Bank Nautically themed with huge stuffed fish hanging over head and more. Casual with excellent fresh seafood served on paper plates with your wine or beer (no hard alcohol) served in plastic. They give you postcards you can write an address while you are there and then... This is my friends favorite restaurant. The service and food are excellent. I had the Shrimp on a Skewer, and loved it. I highly recommend the mashed potatoes. They are covered in paprika, and taste great. Be forewarned, the parking in difficult as there is only metered street parking available. Look forward to returning next time I visit Newport Beach.

Wife and I stopped by for dinner on a mini-vacation. Arrived around 7 on Friday night and were seated right away. There was a wait if your party was more than two. Waitress was right on top of things and did a good job throughout the entire meal. We both had the crab cake appetizer. Wife had the salmon and... More

A small group of us came here at the recommendation of a friend who worked her in high school - 50 years ago. It is family-friendly and has great seafood with a casual SoCal vibe. All food is served on paper plates and with plastic silverware - a quirky holdover from the original owner's germ-phobia. Tables are no so close... More
