We had supper here on the recommendation of a Newport resident that knew we were looking for good seafood. The atmosphere is very casual and meal is served on paper plates with plastic utensils. I had the clam chowder based on reviews I read and it did not disappoint. I'm a New England clam chowder kinda girl but this was... More

The best Dungeness crab and a very healthy portion. The sides of potatoes and Cole slaw were excellent. The parking is bad and it's hard to find a spot.

Lunch here was awesome. We had the Halibut and King Crab plates with mashed potatoes and tomatoes. Both were delicious. Have been coming here for 30 years and the place rocks

My cousin, a former Orange County resident was visiting with two of her clients, she was looking forward to eating at The Crab Cooker in Newport Beach. She invited me to go with her, to this highly anticipated, hyped eatery. She has eaten there many times, it was my first visit. The restaurant does not have their own parking lot,... More

My husband and I have been going there to eat since 1971 and they have been around a long time! It's a very old building painted red with striped awnings. They have a fresh seafood market inside along with tables to enjoy your meal. We go down and get crab cocktails, bread sticks chowder, and sit outside and enjoy! Eating... More

Absolutely a must do restaurant. This is an icon of a restaurant, everything is great. Not a bad choice on the menu. Problem is, everyone knows it.

Busy, bustling atmosphere. All the dishes are well prepared. Wine and beer served in small plastic cups. Food is served like you are at a picnic. Not much variety for side dishes. Pricey for a family.

We love to hunt down local restaurants when we're traveling. This find is a great one. The Crab Cooker is a long time (65 years) fixture on Balboa. It's a VERY homey place, with excellent food and service. Note that they do things their way with paper plates, plastic silverware, but that's just part of what makes it a fine... More

The seafood is amazing: fresh, perfectly cooked and tasty. The decoration is very typical. Service is largely above usual standard despite despite the continued huge affluence. I especially recommend : - the crab cakes...with more crabmeat than bread as you have sometimes - the scallops tender and cooed to the perfection

Small portions on unattractive plates and plastic utensils.Lobster on a skewer was poorly done...burned ,soft shell crabs smelled old oil.Decor attempt at old fish market style with dusty pics ,almost sat on chair with leftovers of previous customer food.Did I mention highly overpriced?
