A long-time local's hangout right on the beach - no more and no less. Maybe not for tourists but if you want to get local color, this is the place.
Stopped here twice on our 2 day visit to newport. Relatively cheap and pints average for usa. Good atmos and great jukebox
most defintely the 'locals' place. we stopped in for a quick shot of vitamin "T"; aka tequila. was served in a cocktail glass; very liberal pour was much appreciated!
It's a dive. You have to be up for lowering your standards when you go in. Yes it does have that surfing beach bar attitude. But it's still a dive. Yes it's on the beach, but besides that it is really no big deal except...maybe a quick beer while your walking around. Don't plan a trip around this place.More
Bartenders refused to serve my African American friend and stated that he is not welcomed. Just spreading the awareness.
It's a Beer Bar that's been there a long long long time at the Newport Pier, smack dab on the Beach. You can sit in there and watch the Surfers while sucking down a few cold ones. Used to be able to see the Dorymen...come and go, selling fish they just got. Pretty awesome place. Don't forget to get a "Blackie's" Tee Shirt and Hat before you leave.More
10/16 1st time in CA, Locals here were awesome! Met a hairdresser from my then home state of KS, super sweet, Pineapple, what a smile, and a Hollywood etc., lighting guy, who lhad the "greatest wife". I am returning next week for Chri stmas and...can't wait to belly-up once again!More
Terrible treatment of myself, my sister and a girlfriend. The bartenders and bouncer were rude, verbally violent and physically "removed" my sister and friend form the bar for no apparent reason. The bar closes at 1am and at 12:45, the bartender was yelling at us...to "hurry the F&*# up" and drink the beers. At 12:55 the bouncer approached us and yelled for us the hurry the F up, and when we said okay, one minute, my sister proceeded to take a drink of her beer; the bouncer then physically grabbed the beer, while it was at her mouth, and jerked it away all while yelling to "Get the F out!" After our surprise and being appalled, demanding answers as to why they were treating us this way, the bouncer then physically grabbed my sister and friend by the arm and proceeded to "remove" them/us from the bar. All the while letting those sitting at the bar stay and explaining when asked why, they were locals and allowed to hang out and for us to "Get the F out!" No explanation was given and it was a VERY bad experience. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life and I'm an ARMY, Military Police Veteran who deployed twice; Afghanistan and Iraq. I will NEVER go back and will do all I can to make sure people know how disturbing, shocking and horrendous our experience was. What's really sad is that my sister and I are "locals" born and raised in and around Newport Beach area; great way to make these locals feel like outsiders.More
Stopped in here for a beer. Did get some looks from regulars but not for long. Decent beer and great 80s music on. Best of course is double the price of my home area in England. California is expensive!!
