One of the best sushi places I’ve ever visited. The quality of fish is out of this world. They also have a lot of unique options for adventurous types (and enough tame items for people like me). They even have fresh wasabi! It’s very hard...to grow and hard to find at a restaurant. Service was excellent. We even ordered more sushi and it came out quickly. I highly recommend the salmon avocado roll, unagi avocado roll, salmon sushi, blue crab roll, and tamago sushi.More

We went to San Shi Go a couple of days ago for my husband’s birthday. This has been our “special occasion” place for the past 10 years. As usual, this latest visit did not disappoint. Their safety measures due to COVID are excellent. We had...omakase as we normally have done. Chef Dasuke made us the best sushi and appetizers. Each bite was heavenly and we can see that the chef genuinely was pleased to see us enjoying his creations so much. My husband does not like eel and the chef challenged him to try a piece (stating that it would be free if he didn’t like it). He took up the challenge and realized how tasty eel is/can be! Thanks for making this a special dinner for us again, chef!More

Actually, I'm not from the area, but I can't imagine things being better than this place in a sushi resto. Service was impeccable, food and presentation was wonderful. Enough said. Go there and you will understand.

Don't come expecting neighborhood food like ramen or tonkatsu. For a fine Japanese dining experience, this place hits all the right notes. The seasonal silken pumpkin tofu alone is worth a visit.

Busy Sushi place with lots of cooked small dishes. Good food but it gets very busy on weekends so make a reservation. They also serve Ramune, the Japanese marble soda if your kiddos like those.

Went with the omkase and it was an amazing experience. First time there and loved it. I can’t wait to go back!

Impeccable presentation, all the chefs and staff are Japanese and make it a very unique experience. Great customer service! The only reason I am giving them a 4 is because I like the fish sliced a bid ticker. The appetizers menu is amazing, every dish...is worth to try. I also ordered salmon skin hand roll and it came unfortunately with 3 pieces of fish in it. For 2 adults and 2 kids we had a $200 bill and for that I expected a little bit of more generous pieces of fish. Other than that it’s worth trying.More

The best Japanese food there. My favorite is home made pumpkin tofu. It is seasonal dish, so got for it and ask. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

There just are not that many places where you can get Striped Jack, Akamutsu--Black Throat Sea Perch, O-Toro, Sawara--Japanese Spanish Mackerel, Goldeneye and Buri (fresh yellowtail). In addition, we greatly enjoyed almost all of the dishes we shared--cucumber salad, fried calamari, Octopus Tempura, the rolls,...all the sashimi and sushi. The Buri collar was good, but not as impressive as everything else. You will step-up on cost, but it won't be your plain vanilla experience.More

Where to start. We live in Balboa and have been long-time patrons (since it opened) and typically enjoy the restaurant greatly. It is one of our favorite places to eat in Balboa. We had reservations for 6 for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night....We had specifically requested Table 4 (where we typically try to sit) and the request was taken. We arrive and the table is not available - 2 other parties were seated shortly before we arrived. We were told that the others had reservations from a month before. Ok, it would have been nice to know that when you accepted the reservation. Instead, we were seated next to the restroom that reeked of scented urinal cake. Not exactly the odor I prefer with my sushi. Absolutely disgusting. Since all other tables were occupied we had no choice but to sit outside. It was cold and the outside lighting was fluorescently garish. Zero ambience. The food delivery was poorly sequenced. My entree arrived after everyone had finished. The waiter proceeded to get into a somewhat arrogant patronizing argument about flavored sake with one of the guests and whether we had had it there before. Very poorly handled. On balance, the meal was only memorable for the bad experience. For a 1/2 grand tab one expects a LOT MORE. I have to say, San Shi Go has dropped way down on my list of places to go for dinner. Very unfortunate.More

We ordered the omakase to get a good feel for the sushi chefs favs. We said we'd try everything and did, the Uni was delicious, fresh tofu with broth, wide variety of fish I'd never had sushi style and everything was fantastic. So tasty! If...you only have time for one item get the wagyu beef with white truffle oil and shaved black truffle. The best single bite. My new go to sushi spot.More

I am of Japanese descent and am used to excellent sushi and tempura. This ranked among the best I've had. The vegetable tempura was crisp and not greasy. The flavor of the vegetables came through well. The sushi and sashimi were tasty and fresh with...some seasonal offerings. There is no children's menu but the children at a neighboring table did well with some teriyaki and fried chicken from the appetizer menu.More

What a great menu. The tofu melted in your mouth and the seasonal menu was extensive. Everything was delicious. Sake seemed very expensive, but the Japanese beer went perfectly instead.

Ordered the omakase to celebrate 12-year anniversary with wife. Besides scoring some points, thanks to hiro-san's guidance, the 'off-the-menu' fish was probably the best I've had at a state-side Japanese restaurant. The restaurant is pretty nondescript, but don't be fooled. This place is the real...deal. If you're looking for fresh fish from Japan this is the place. If you're looking for a bento-box 7.99 special showered in teriyaki molasses go elsewhere.More

The fish at San Shi Go is always very fresh. The sushi chefs are very creative with their rolls. It is not fancy but the food is very good. I love the Blue Crab hand roll, it delicious.
