This is a neighborhood diner that caters to locals and travelers. It is also a neighborhood bar that people has been coming to for over 100 years. We dined here twice on our recent travels. The waitress/bartender is friendly and works her butt off. The...food was good and also cheap. It is a good place to mingle with the local people.More

I found this place because someone put a flier on my car. Soooo I went in on a early Sunday evening. I was greeted by the owner and a local (they were the only two people to on the joint). The outside looks classic, the...inside looks like it was renovated..... a while ago, yet clean. Long story short, the beer was cold and it was served promptly. I ordered the onion rings to start (were cooked nicely) and the main course was the steak, shrimp and lobster special. I ordered the steak medium rare and it showed up medium. The grade of meat was not super high quality as it was on the tough side..... buuuuut it had good "cow" flavor, and was juicy. The shrimp were the frozen butterfly shrimps. The lobster tail was good sized and cooked nicely. I might come back on a later date, and see what it's like when it's full of people.More

Another great reason to visit South Bay area! Excellent menu choices for the whole family, the online offers and mailers we received are outstanding and well priced, now they even deliver too! Highly suggest this famous San Diego landmark restaurant to everyone with big &...little kids!More

We loved the people, food, and spirits. Played a few games of darts and had a wonderful time. I recommend it for anyone who loves a Irish food.

I was hopeful for this historical dive bar. I've been walking past McDinis for months with their windows boasting their breakfasts. Breakfast? At McDinis? This was my first visit. It was about 10 am and no diners were in there. Just the lone waitress in...a cavernous and dark facility. The waitress was a bit disheveled and busy stocking the bar. She was attentive at taking my order of corn beef hash and a Bloody Mary. It's a weekend, it's breakfast, it's a bar, you order a Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary was mostly Bloody Mary mix and a dash of Tapatio, nothing special. The corn beef hash could use more seasoning, and overall the breakfast lacked seasoning. Bottom line, McDinis is not a restaurant, it's a bar that serves food.More

We checked this place out one night and thought it looked great but it was just a walk through so we returned for breakfast the next day. We walked in and no one was there to greet us, no wait staff in sight. NOBODY!! We...waited about 5 minutes at the front door and were just about to leave when a waitress showed up and she turned out to be very good. Her name was Jessica. She was very attentive and did everything to please us and so we decided to return for dinner that night. When we returned late in the afternoon to again find only one waitress and no one else, no customers and we assume a cook was there. She never gave us her name and she was very attentive at first, she got our drinks and when we decided to order she sat down at the table with us. A little odd but it was okay except she kept getting up and running off somewhere but soon came back. It took about 20 minutes for our salads and since it was very roomy and no one else was there, the kids had fun running around the place. One other note was the menu was confusing when it came to sides. We asked for an explanation and were told that veggies came with the entree but potatoes were $2 extra although onion rings could be subbed for the potatoes. The worst was yet to come. Finally after well over 30 minutes our food came and although my wife didn't order potatoes, she got mashed potatoes and asked why and the waitress told her she ordered mashed which she never does so was told they are included if you don't order a $2 potato. The real kicker was our son's steak which he ordered blue rare and it came out medium so he sent it back and she took not only the steak but his plate with the sides also. In the meantime, the rest of us ate and the food was pretty good except the steaks had quite a bit of gristle. We waited for our son's steak for nearly another 30 minutes and we couldn't understand why it took so long to cook a steak rare so looked into the kitchen and the chef was leaning against the wall and we checked with the waitress again and finally she brought it but she didn't bring any sides with it and she blamed our son for not keeping them when she was the one who took them. So he sent her back to get his sides which were vegetables and when they finally came they were very good but we were all a lot older by the time this meal was over and had no time left to go to the park like we had planned. This place is very large, not air conditioned but they have a large fan and is a mix of tables and booths. Customer service is terribly lacking except for Jessica and obviously this was our final time eating here. One wonders what would happen if the place actuallyc filled up with more people. Yikes!!More

From the moment we sat down, had to look for menus. Only one person employed during a shift. Horrible customer service and breakfast was a spinach and mushroom omelette. Old ingredients and overpriced. The beer was warm. Not worth spending money here. Let's just say...that customer service is not a strong suit.More

McDini's is a great place to have a bite to eat and sing along to the music with a few friends. It's National City but everyone who goes there has there own luck of the Irish after a few drinks lol!
