Best I have ever had. They can get crowded, but worth the wait. Waitresses are fun and the food is perfect. Seriously, get the corned beef hash, though, it is amazing.

Everything you would expect in a diner, with the exception of the service. The food was good. The service was slow. On my first visit, the cook and the waitress were arguing with one another. We had breakfast there three days in a row (Your choices for breakfast are limited in Mt. Shasta). The rough around the edge waitresses were... More

Tried lunch at the original Black Bear in Mt. Shasta. Friendly folks, and the menu doesn't look bad, but everything here happens really really slow, including how long it takes to be seated. Minimal restroom facilities, so there was a huge back up that spilled into the dining area, creating even more suspense. Eventually we were seated. And at a... More

We stopped for a late lunch at this original Black Bear Diner, and even at 1:30 there was a wait to get in which tells you that it's a good restaurant!. To avoid the wair, we sat at the counter and Andrew did an excellent job of taking care of us. My husband had the turkey club and I had... More

We found this Black bear diner on our way to visit family in CA. The place has a family atmosphere as if they know you as a neighbor. The service was superb and the breakfast is like a kings breakfast. My family was way too full that we took home some for our snack. So it's been a breakfast stop... More

Went here thinking we were tired of eating at Hi Lo. But it ended up being the same menu. I think the same owners! What a laugh we had. Service was slow. Our waitress was new and very friendly. Food was ok. I think Hi Lo was better.

Having lived in Mt. Shasta in 1997, just two years after the founding of this local, now widely regional excellent eatery chain, I enjoyed a recent return visit. This (original) Big Bear Diner is still The Best. The service is par excellent, the food portions immense and excellent, the prices fair. The Eggs Benedict and Spinach Omelette were perfect.

Kept seeing this advertise during our trip from Southern Cali to Oregon. I had the Gobbler. So used to having one of these sandwiches that make you feel like you are eating Thanksgiving dinner. Absolutely not with this sandwich. Hardly tasted the cranberry sauce, had to remove 2/3 of the shaved turkey. The tomato and avocado just does not give... More
