We were walking on the wharf, and were offered a sample of the clam chowder. Ate it and continued on our way. Then...."hey that was really, REALLY GOOD"....turn around and got a table for lunch. And we weren't planning on eating for another hour or two. Ordered appetizers to have with the chowder and shared around the table.

My family stopped in after a whale watching cruise. We try to avoid the tourist traps and this place is in the heart of the commercialized, fisherman's wharf. The service could not have been better. Our waiter treated us like we were best friends. The food was really outstanding. My wife's seafood platter was without complaint. I got a Dungeness... More

When you are in Monterey there are so many choices where to eat. Choosing the right one could be a little tricky especially where there is a lot of tourists. I am happy we chose the Old Fisherman’s Grotto. The service is amazing since you walk in, even though they were busy we were seated right away at a table... More

Looking for a quick lunch and this was a little more formal than we expected. We got a free appetizer (card from the guy outside) which was the most excellent artichoke grilled with aoli sauce. I had a crab sandwich which was filled with all the crab I would want to eat at once. My wife wanted the 1/2 sandwich... More

We were very pleased with this restaurant, where we were seated next to the windows overlooking the water. It was rather formal & fancy inside, so I'm not sure if families with little kids would feel comfortable. Service was fast enough and friendly. Excellent seafood and clam chowder; however, it didn't offer much for my non-seafood eaters.

I went here today with my family. Our host was really nice and explained everything very well. The atmosphere in this restaurant is good! The food is really good! I really recommend the soup and all the fish they serve tasted wonderful. If there is any room left, I really recommend to eat a desert too.

Great view from the best seats in the dining room. The food is outstanding and the service is excellent. The wine list is wonderful with very good selections at decent prices. Very nice atmosphere and good seats for waiting at the bar.

After driving 3 hours, we were very hungry and stopped for a light afternoon snack. It was a great choice as their fried calamari was delicious. We also shared a pear and Gorgonzola salad which was one of the best of its kind because it included a Bosc pear, not a crunchy Bartlett. It was just a little over dressed,... More

My wife and I ate lunch here and it was excellent. I had the daily fish special and my wife had the chowder bowl. Both were great. Service was great. View was great.
