This is a great restaurant, good outdoor/garden area with firepit and fairy lights in the trees, really cool bar and the dining areas have great ambience. Terrific wine list, very professional yet friendly service and amazing food. We had a great night here. Would highly recommend.

Visited 1833 for a quiet evening birthday dinner. Old style restaurant nicely presented with a settled ambiance. Interesting menu. We opted for the chicken liver parfait and baby back ribs, both were excellent. Mains, we both had the 1833 house burger and this was really good. The dessert menu didn't appeal and I do think they could try harder here.... More

Excellent food.. Kale Salad was especially memorable. Pasta was perfectly cooked and the chicken was like butter.

Without a doubt my favourite restaurant in downtown Monterey, boasting the highest quality range of cocktails the city has to offer.

We were so impressed with the staff. Their staff attitude was awesome - we walked into the bar and asked if we could get served out in the courtyard where the fire pits were located. Bar staff "sure, I will let Amy know". No longer had we sat down here comes Amy. She took our order and gave us menus.... More

We chose the 1833 due to its' proximity to our accommodations, and although the food was very good, it seemed to lack the complexity of complimentary flavors. The waitress on our first visit was engaging and knowledgeable of the menu, but on our second visit (her night off) our waiter was neither. Being in a historical building, the atmosphere was... Informal, excellent American-Mexican fusion, with local ingredients, and an excellent wine list. Top five place in the area

The big draw here is the historic building the restaurant is housed in. The district it is situated in is the Old Monterey ( which for history aficionados is where California became a State ). This area has some of the very oldest preserved buildings existing in the State of California ( and U.S.). The menu is quality, but has... More

We read the glowing reviews of Restaurant 1833 and decided to give it a try. The place is so cute, and the story of it being "haunted" just adds to the atmosphere. And then we ate. First, I read so much about the Milk Punch cocktail. It was awful. Second drink was a cranberry vodka. It was made with unsweetened... More

Fun and unique location, setting, ambiance, bar area, and menu. I've seen other reviews in regards to service, but we had no problems. Be prepared to order something outside of the box. The absinthe presentation after dinner was a fun show. if your group is open to it, it's just a fun way to have a drink. All heads turn... More
