My husband, my brother, and I had a great lunch at Tlayuda a couple of days ago when we were visiting LA. We shared the mole negro con pollo and the tlayuda supreme. If you haven't had a tlayuda before, it's a Oaxacan dish that's...sort of like a Mexican pizza - a large thin, crunchy tortilla covered with beans and various toppings. The tlayuda supreme has frijoles, lettuce, tomato, onion, avoado, Oaxacan cheese, beef, pork, and chorizo. And I LOVED it. So delicious. The chicken mole was also good! Based on the quality of what we tried, I'd be happy to try anything on Tlayuda LA's menu! The service was excellent. And the restaurant is casual and homey. (Bonus: it's a family-owned restaurant. It also has vegan options.) One of my favorite meals from our visit to LA. Highly recommend checking it out if you like Oaxacan/Mexican food.More

Popped into this restaurant last night on a whim - so glad we did! The waitress was very enthusiastic and happy to explain the food to us as we were not familiar with Tlayuda or the majority of the items on the menu. She provided...samples of beverages for us to try. The food was fantastic, fresh with wonderful service. Will definitely be coming back and have already recommend to friends.More

The Service: I love this kind of family style restaurant because the food is authentic. It is opened kitchen style so I can see those ladies preparing the food. It feels like going to my friends' house and their moms are preparing food for us....HOMEMADE food!! Their service is "A+" because the restaurant owners are taking care their own customers themselves!! The Food: Guacamole & Chips - I am an avocado fan!! Anything with avocado will be a bonus for that dish. So of course, I have to try their guacamole. I can taste chunks of avocado... yes~ freshly made!!! Torta Oaxaquena- beef, chorizo, cheese, avocado and bean puree. The bread... so fresh & soft!! All the ingredients compliment each other. That is a perfect food for going to outdoor events! Enchiladas Verdes - 3 chicken enchiladas with rice. I love spicy food, so I tried the spicy sauce. Just a little kick, not so spicy that I can't taste the food. They are very generous with the chicken~ every bite full of shredded chicken!! Huevos Rancheros - two over easy eggs topped with red sauce and rice & beans on the side. OMG!!! the egg yolks just ooze out~ Perfectly prepared. That is the kind of breakfast that I can eat everyday! Tacos - 7 different kinds of tacos. Handmade tortilla with black bean puree, Oaxaca cheese and avocado. The texture of handmade tortilla really taste different than those machine made. My new favorite taco... "Vegetarian taco". I know... I know... no meat? But they really loaded up with tons of different kind of vegetables!!! It looks pretty & yummmm~ Not just food is authentic but the drinks..... highly highly highly recommend "BrewChata"!! Mixture of cold brew coffee with horchata! The coffee is not bitter/too strong anymore, so smooth to drink! Besides horchata, there are also Jamaica and Tamarindo. Super refreshing~ The Parking: Street metered parking or if you don't mind a little walk, side streets have residential parking (free).More

This place was incredible. I was in the area and saw amazing reviews. It is well worth the journey to it no matter where you are in LA. I had amazing tacos and also looked around at other people's food as I ate and it...all was incredible. I had this horchata and coffee drink that blew my mind. Finally the service is really really friendly. It is a small family restaurant from what i can tell. This is not a fancy place but it is my favorite kind of place.More

This is not the place for a leisurely meal with a group of people who are looking for style and comfort in a restaurant. It's more like a small home cooking restaurant one would find in Mexico, simple table and chairs, nice wait staff, anxious...to please. We had excellent chips and salsas--homemade from blue corn with two different zesty salsa. I ordered the Brew-Chata, a mix of homemade horchata with cold brew coffee. Tasty. We did not order the namesake Tlayuda; instead we favored the dark mole, which was excellent on my tasty chicken enchiladas, but my companion complained the chicken was pretty tough and disappointing in his Mole Negro con Pollo. The homemade tortillas that came with it were excellent. So this is a mixed review. Definitely worth a try for lunch if you're near this not-yet-gentrified part of East Hollywood.More

This is a great little Oxacan Mexican restaurant with excellent, authentic, homemade food and fabulous service in English as well as Spanish. Its signature dish is the tlayuda, a large homemade tortilla with lettuce, etc. topped with pork, beef, and chorizo - a Oaxacan specialty. It...is absolutely fabulous, as is everything else from the tacos to the chilaquiles. The mole and the gaucamole are both top notch. The tostitos and all of the other items are clearly homemade. It is run by the owners and excellent English is spoken. My son thinks its the best Mexican in L.A. and I do too.More

Best tacos I had eaten in a while. I had the beef taco (without the beans) and it was amazing. It was so good! The cheese inside tastes delicious. The addition of avocado creates a combo of flavors.... it's just great. You can tell this...is like homemade food. Whenever I am going back to L.A, this is one of my priority stops!More

Tlayuda L.A. over a very unusual type of Mexican food. Turns out it came from a specific region in Mexico. The staff here is very friendly and willing to walk you through the type of food they have. My parties love their guacamole as well...as the tlayuda. The server recommend their Mole sauce, I thought the sauce a bit weird as it has some burnt smell and taste but worth a try as with the wrap and rice it actually tasted pretty good.More
