Got three dishes to go: Duck & rice, BBQ pork & rice, and papaya salad. All delicous! The duck and pork came with wonderful gravy to pour over the rice. Reasonable prices- cash only.

Landed at LAX and instead of heading straight to in-N-out burger which one usually do after arriving from the east coast, I decided to head to Sapp Coffee Shop having my eyes and tastebuds set on a tasty bowl off Boat Noodles or kuay tiew...rua as they say in Thai. This is probably one of the best boat noodles you will get in this country but having that said, the broth lacked both in depth and intensity compared to what you get in Thailand. Perhaps I went here on the wrong day.More
Popped into this little hole in the wall on a rainy day and ordered the boat noodle soup. Lo and behold, this place turned out to be a favorite of the late Jonathan Gold and a foodie destination. The boat noodle soup was delicious and...just writing this review makes me want to go out for more.More
Sapp was recommended by the late LA Times food critic, Jonathan Gold. The food is great, especially Thai coffee. The restaurant is located in a funky mini-mall, The service is slow and guests must pay in cash.
This unique restaurant in Hollywood's Thaitown is for traditional Thai food lovers as well as adventurous foodies. Nothing fancy here. Bare bone decors but service is fast and friendly. Also cheap. The beef noodles are the most savory. Can't go wrong! Lunch tends to be...busy. Closes early compared to other restaurants in the area.More
A small restaurant dishing up delicious Thai food, the beef boat noodles were hearty and yummy. Recommended.
Boat noodles were delicious and good value. The owner is very friendly. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are on a budget (and sick of fast food...).
I used to go there once a week for over 15 years, now it's changed. If you are light skin, they your order will come out first, even if it's the same boat noodle. Now, there's so many good Thai Restaurant out there, Yai on...Hollywood served home made curry. Pa Ord great noodles etc. This place is just ok. What did it for me was, the table next to us came 10 minutes after, we already ordered, she gave them my boat noodle, I didn't order it with fine noodle, the guy did, he ordered the wrong one, she gave it to me said take it or not. I had ordered thai coffee, she said it was out, that table got it. There's plenty of Thai Restaurant out there. I'm not sad or sorry, their portion is a lot smaller too.More
Hours posted wrong. This 'coffee shop' opens in the morning then closes at 8. The jade noodles are sublime. My husband loves the boat noodles they are super authentic. The rice meat and egg fish is also superb. The pad say yew and pad Thai...also great.More
Easily one of the best and most consistent Thai restaurants in Thai Town. From the Jade Noodles to the barbecue and duck soup, you absolutely can't go wrong here.
First of all, calling this a "coffee shop" is a bit of a misnomer in my opinion, although they do have a selection of coffees and teas. Sapp Coffee Shop is actually a Thai restaurant in Hollywood (Thai Town) that we wanted to try because...we love Thai food and the restaurant is on Jonathan Gold's Best Restaurants list. We were not disappointed. Mr. Gold is right about the fried shrimp cakes: they're delicious, as were the deep fried crab rolls. The two soups we ordered were also outstanding -- spicy shrimp, and coconut/vegetable with shrimp, wonderfully seasoned and not the kind of thing you find in most Thai restaurants. Sapp Coffee Shop is not a fancy place, but we were both quite impressed with the food, the service was friendly, and we will definitely go back to try out more of their cuisine. (We probably over-ordered on the shrimp, but they were out of duck, which is also recommended, and since we generally don't eat meat, other options were a bit limited. But I imagine anything you order will be delicious.)More
One of the best Thai foods that I had. All dishes are good. Seriously, I had zero regrets. The portions are reasonable and the price is ok. But if you want to be super happy, just add one more dish than the number of people....Usually, I and my friend order three dishes and we come out with big fat smiles. I personally like pad thai and drunken noodles but everything tastes wonderful. Parking can be annoying. Just try to find parking in northwestern sideMore
If you have guts, go for this, and you will have more guts. Like spleen, liver, tendon, beef parts in a soup base of blood. But let me tell you, it was really good. Could have used more noodles in my book, and maybe some...more vegs, but it was really very good. And SO inexpensive.More
We originally discovered Sapp during a Thai food tasting walking tour with Chef Jet Tila several years ago. We returned yesterday and enjoyed some more of their delicious authentic Thai food. We ordered the famous Beef Boat Noodles, the Drunken Noodles with Beef, the BBQ...pork and Chinese sausage with steamed rice, the Seafood with Glass Noodles, and the Jade Noodles. Everything came out hot and delicious!! Our server was an older Thai guy who was quite funny and has obviously worked at this family-owned restaurant for many years. The prices are very reasonable but be advised that they accept cash only. Another issue is the parking lot, which is very small and finding a parking spot can be quite challenging. However, the food is definitely worth the hassle!!More
We were so happy when this place was open on Christmas. We stopped in to eat a late lunch after arriving from the East Coast around noon. It was chilly out, much chillier than we expected, so I really just wanted a bowl of something...warm. For my main I ordered something familiar - a shrimp wonton soup in a clear broth. My husband ordered shrimp fried rice and a fried crab roll appetizer. We enjoyed everything, but I especially loved the simple soup. For some reason it felt quite Christmas-y. Be warned this place takes cash only, or at least that was the deal when we stopped in. It was extremely well-priced, though.More
