We love to find new and unusual restaurants and this was a great find. It has about 8 tables and is nothing to look at from the exterior, but it is a long-time family-run restaurant that serves honest Cantonese home cooking--we were served by 3 generations of the extended family. It was hot, crowded, and noisy--the very definition of fun in Mandarin (re nao). If you are adventurous, you will not be disappointed. The food was all fresh and cooked to order, and with way more meat than you usually get at a Chinese restaurant. Especially recommended: the salty fish fillets. A real cultural adventure, great food, great service, incredibly reasonable cost.

We had a delightful dinner here on our way back from a day's touristing... The service we received was quite incredible. The family who run it were warm, fun and generous, providing lovely food at an excellent price. Seldom have we felt so welcomed and engaged in a restaurant. After a bit of a chat, Ma packed us away with some fortune cookies, biscuits, water and even some jasmine tea for our journey. I think we both made an impression on each other! We would definitely visit again. [Point to note, it's cash only. But there is an ATM at the market next door if you are short]

Our party of 5 ordered a wide variety of takeout: egg rolls (order of 2 can be shared with 3-4 people), chicken chow mein, Mongolian beef, cashew chicken, chicken with string beans, steamed chicken with veggies. Best dish was the Mongolian beef: the beef was very tender, the sauce was delicious and the onions and mushrooms were cooked just right , and there was more beef than veggies! Chicken with string beans has a nice sauce, beans also cooked just right. The cashew chicken and chow mein were average dishes. Prices very fair, and carryout service was quick. Tip : they only accept cash!

We found this place by chance and were so lucky we did. Lina is a wonderful host, so genuinely friendly and happy. The food is fresh and tasty with good sized portions. You won't leave hungry from this place. We had 5 days in LA and had dinner here twice, it was so good. Value for money is excellent, you can eat like like kings ! They didn't want a tip but we gave them one anyway. Then they gave us a bag with bottles of water, can of Coke and cookies 😁How nice is that ! Can't wait to go back to LA and visit here again !

Parking can be tough to find, they have their own parking lot but it can be tough finding a free space. I came in starving for lunch and I hadn't eaten all day. They were busy but I found a seat with no problem and I received the menu fairly quickly from the friendly lady. I ordered the Orange Chicken, House Special fried rice, and a Coke in the bottle from Mexico what could be better on this hot day. The food was good and the service even better, the lady made sure I had a glass of ice to pour my coke inside. This is a family run business and they even have grandma helping out bringing food to the tables, what can be more authentic.

Went for a light lunch/dinner, can't decide for one o two plates.. everything was super. Star with a "Chicken Won ton soup", Chicken Broccoli, Mix Fried Rice and Thai Iced Tea.. a banquet it is a small place (no more than 10 tables), family managed and serviced; but the the food is like any 5 diamonds restaurant.. Parking spaces are limited but can park on street. It is pack with large families on weekends..

The Golden Hen feels like home when we visit. The owner greets everyone and takes care of each customer like they are family. And just like eating with family, you won't leave hungry. The portions are plentiful and great for sharing to get a taste of various dishes. First and foremost though, you must try the egg rolls. They're not like the egg rolls you'll find at franchise places. They are huge and so tasty. We've tried the bbq pork, sweet and sour chicken, and other dishes and have never been disappointed. Do yourself a favor and skip PF Changs or Panda Express, support local businesses, and enjoy real, hot, fresh, and delicious food. I can't wait to visit again.

This is a place that you probably wouldn't take your girlfriend on a first date or a big client that you wanted to impress, but if you could blindfold them until the food was put in front of them I think Golden Hen would have another customer for life. My first time was with a close friend that decided to share this little secret of a great restaurant with me and I am so very happy that he did. Truly great food and super low prices.. and the owners treat you like family..
