Terrible service, terrible food, terrible waiters with the timid attitude, don’t recommend it at all

We enjoyed some take out from Safir. The chicken and beef kabobs were really tasty as was the hummus and side dishes. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and the service is very attentive. Well worth a visit.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at Javan. The hummus was tasty and the eggplant nice. The chicken and angus beef kabobs on basmati rice w tomatoes mouth watering. Our grandson was a bit noisy and the staff treated us with such kindness and accommodation. We...felt like family. Such nice staff. We will visit again soon.More

I had dinner in this restaurant. Although staff were friendly. Restaurant seemed clean. However food quality was extremely bad and not tasty at all. We tried the chicken as well the meat and all didn't taste good and we couldn't complete it. Starters also below...average. Not recommended at all.More

We ordered the chicken barg and beef soltani. Both were excellent and highly recommended. The service was prompt and professional. Great overall experience!

I tried this place few days ago, I had the food to go and honestly the guys there were very nice. The food was good, I had the chicken boneless and a mast moseer. The later was not that good but their chicken was fresh...and tasty. I would go again to this place.More

I used to eat at this restaurant regularly while I lived in Los Angeles. On a recent return trip, I put it high on the must do list. It's that good. Particularly recommend the appetizer with herbs, onion, radish, feta, walnuts, and lavash. It's flavorful,...fresh, and absolutely delicious. Also try the rosewater pistachio saffron ice cream...totally delicious. Nice upscale atmosphere...manager is friendly and evidences great pride in his establishment.More

We had a big family birthday gathering celebrating my uncle's 80th and my cousin's 30th. My wife and I are from Miami and the main focus of middle eastern food is more Lebanese and Syrian so we were excited for something different. And given the...large number of Iranian expats in LA, we were pretty certain the food would be good. The restaurant has a throw-back feel, not quite 70s or 80s but that vibe which was pleasant and enhanced by the keyboard player's selection of music. Service was good and friendly, and accommodated our large party. The food was comfort food - appetizers of hummus and kashk o'bademjan (which is eggplant but not Irish), lamb chops, chicken, kababs, delicate rice and salad. Nothing fancy or exotic but all very tasty and certainly worth my time to give a positive review.More

Living in Europe, we organised a luncheon for out LA relatives at Javan (on the recommendation of a cousin). Though a fairly simple restaurant, it has valet parking in a garage under the building. The decor is a bit seedy 1950's, but the reception couldn't...be friendlier. The patience of the maitre'd for the group to make its decisions was admirable. The food was superb and every dish surprising. Salads with fresh mint, home made humus, delicious lentil soup and rice with berries that still puts a smile on our faces. When it was time to pay the bill, I added a 20% tip and paid by card to a young man near the entrance. The maitre'd saw the amount I paid and said: "But we had already added the tip to your bill, you don't need to do that again", and promptly refunded me. Good for service, food and honesty!More

Great ambiance. It has a bar, a nice one too. Food is great and service is great and very friendly. Their Kash Bademjan is very delicious (one of the best I've ever had!). Kabobs are very good. I really liked the Barg, the chicken kabob...was good. The Koubideh is also very good with the standards of Persian cooking but was too fatty for me! I prefer a leaner version (no or low on lamb and mostly beef). Overall, highly recommended.More

I raved about Javan on TripAdvisor back in early 2014, but as we’d not been there again for quite a while, it seemed a good idea to check back in after a visit with friends to a recent Santa Monica Symphony concert. Prices have gone...up a bit, but otherwise everything was reassuringly up to one’s memories, particularly the (for us) signature dish of Bademjan — sauteed eggplant with lamb shank served in tomato sauce and side of Basmati rice. It’s still sublime, so good that it’s really difficult to get past it to deliberately try something different. What I didn’t quite get around to mentioning before was the sheer stratospherically high comfort level of the place: really attentive, old-school service, chunky cutlery, white tablecloth and napkins, the basket of warm wafer-thin Persian bread plus dish of quartered mild raw onion and radish that comes unbidden within a minute or so of you sitting down, the piano player… and if live music in your ear isn’t your thing (it isn’t ours) turn right when you enter and ask to be seated well away in one of the deep booths (sink-into-squishy seating) on that side. Don’t ever change.More

In Spite of the fact the food looks and taste somehow Iranian, I had feeling that its not real. Maybe because they had no grounded meat kabab and they sold Alcohol? The service was fast and polite but not native English actually they had difficulties.

Wow! Went on a Saturday night - very festive atmosphere, great food, excellent service! Had my favorite beef koobideh- juicy and tender. The gomah sabzi was the best I've ever had- delicate and tasty! My water glass was never empty and the server was well...versed in all things Persian. We even got tips on markets and a bakery! If you are on the Westside- try it! I found parking on the street right outside the restaurant- watch the meters!More
