It was a surprise to find HALAL Thai restaurant when we came out from the UNIVERSAL STUDIOS in HOLLYWOOD , LA. It is just around 5 kms away. Decent , unkept and untidy ambience but Authentic HALAL food served here. They have all Thai dishes...and Thai curries and also some Chinese dishes. We had TOMYAM PRAWN SOUP, SHRIMP FRIED RICE , GARLIC CHICKEN & BUFFALO WINGS. all were good and worth trying. They can prepare as spicy as you want. Average meal is $ 15- 20 pp. Recommended if you wish to have HALAL Thai food within 15 kms radius from this restaurant but not as a destination.More

Really wanted to like the food from this place. Maybe, ordered the wrong item from the menu. Tried the Chicken fried rice and Mixed Fried rice, both were OK, not good. The one thing that really put us off was the fact that the rice...was really sticky, like it had a glue holding it together.More

This is an excellent joint for family cooled halal thai food that hits the spot.. Just make sure to mention that you want your food to be mild if you cant handle spicy, coz trust there spicy is like really mouth burning spicy! But rhe...food was excellent in flavours and the owner, Mr Yasin, is a very friendly guy.. We ordered orange chicken, fried rice and tom yam.. Everythig was great!More

Lots of parking. Looks like a rough neighbor hood, but felt safe. Food was surprising very good. The owner was the cook and host. Half of the restaurant has personal stuff. Atmosphere need a lot of work and may be new menus. It was falling...apart. Owner was very friendly & very good food.More

I always return to Barn Rau Thai whenever I'm in LA. This place serves up authentic Thai cuisine and it's always a pleasure to dine at this establishment. The owner is very personable and is true to his Thai roots. The place could do with...a little sprucing up and more help at the front of the house but all these can easily be forgiven once you taste the food. Being an avid fan of spicy food, I like that I can always depend on Barn Rau Thai to turn up the heat. So much wonderful flavor in a plate. Highly recommend!More

The food is super great and as I can only eat Halal food, I recommend this place to all Muslims. The owner is from Thailand but he speaks little Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesia. The interior of the shop could be improved, tho! A little bit messy but...once the food arrived, you tend to forget about your surrounding and just dive in!More

I feel relieved that there is a halal restaurant in LA that serves food like my home country Msia. The seafood fried rice is superb and we were wanting for more. At first we thought that the restaurant was clised. But no, it was opened...but only for one hour! I was puzzled. I think the place survives because people will still go there to find halal meals. The owner is a thai muslim who is serious and knows a bit malay language. It feels like i was in south thailand house. Very cozy even others said shabby but i think it's a normal condition of country house in Asia. I would certainly go to that restaurant again!!More

This is a write-up which would be welcomed by Muslim readers, but non-Muslim readers who have the time to spare would find this useful as well because, frankly, this is one of the best Thai restaurants I have come across. Generally I find that most...Thai restaurants overseas tend to go ‘uppity up‘ especially in their presentation and their use of the ingredients – all in the name of presenting Thai cuisine as fine dining. The Barn Rau does not pretend to any of these gestures. It is just authentic Thai food, cooked very much as one would at home and the only concession is whether you want a dish spicy, less spicy or more spicy. However, be warned – it is not the easiest place to find even with GPS!! It is also quite far from downtown LA - but then again, in LA everything is so far apart, it does not matter. You would need to be driving though because taxis would be very expensive. And when you go in, you might have doubts – as I did the first time I went there. The décor is nothing to look at – in fact it is really shabby and looks like a space cleared out in a warehouse. BUT it is clean, it does not even have the odours and smells that you might expect seeing the general area. My one check on the cleanliness was the bathroom which was clean – not too modern but clean and usable. And that was good enough for me. And the food – it is really good. Even the omelette is good. Some items are not on the menu, but you can ask and the owner can whip it all up in a jiffy. Food is freshly cooked and you don’t have any of the stuff of re-heated food. I recommend the tom yam – but do specify how spicy you want it. It is clear sour spicy soup with prawns that are crisp and crunchy. Then the famous Thai green and red curries – either with beef or chicken. I recommend as well the deep fried tofu which you eat with some chilli sauce. Simple fare which hits that spot just nicely! The prices are also very reasonable and well worth it. Unless you want to linger over a cup of milk tea, this is a restaurant you leave as soon as your meal is done. It will get crowded during the weekends and then again on some nights, it is a quiet neighbourhood place that sees only a few diners. All I know is that when i went there - 3 times in 2 weeks - I saw a number of returnees whom the owner proudly told me, were graduate students!!More
